Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Time–Frequency Analysis of Railway Bridges Forced and Free Vibrations Identified by Wavelet Transform

open access: yesVibration
In this work, a time–frequency analysis of two railway bridges included in the InBridge4EU project database is presented. The study focuses on the identification of modal parameters from free responses after train passages and their comparison with ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Dynamically Loading Mobile/Cloud Assemblies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Distributed applications that span mobile devices, computing clusters, and cloud services, require robust and flexible mechanisms for dynamically loading code. This paper describes lady: a system that augments the .net platform with a highly reliable mechanism for resolving and loading assemblies, and arranges for safe execution of partially trusted ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Requirements for implementation of Kuessner and Wagner indicial lift growth functions into the FLEXSTAB computer program system for use in dynamic loads analyses [PDF]

open access: yes
General requirements for dynamic loads analyses are described. The indicial lift growth function unsteady subsonic aerodynamic representation is reviewed, and the FLEXSTAB CPS is evaluated with respect to these general requirements.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Vertical-plane pendulum absorbers for minimizing helicopter vibratory loads [PDF]

open access: yes
The use of pendulum dynamic absorbers mounted on the blade root and operating in the vertical plane to minimize helicopter vibratory loads was discussed.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Wind loads on flat plate photovoltaic array fields (nonsteady winds) [PDF]

open access: yes
Techniques to predict the dynamic response and the structural dynamic loads of flat plate photovoltaic arrays due to wind turbulence were analyzed. Guidelines for use in predicting the turbulent portion of the wind loading on future similar arrays are ...
