Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Dynamic Load Balancing with MatlabMPI [PDF]
A number of packages have recently been developed to enable the execution of MATLAB programs on parallel processors. For many applications, an integrated load balancing functionality is also necessary to realize the full benefits of parallelization. This paper describes a toolkit based on MatlabMPI to ease the parallelization and integration of load ...

Analyses of tunnel stability under dynamic loads [PDF]
Tunnels as any other structures are affected by different loads and stresses. Generally, the loads on tunnels consist of both static and dynamic loads. These loads must both be considered in the tunnel design process.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Impacts of train-induced dynamic loads on goaf foundation of Qinshui coalfield
For the high-speed railway built in the goaf sites, if the influence depth of the additional loads reaches the collapse fault zone of the goaf foundation, the overburden rock mass above the mined area will move again, causing the surface to deform again,

Dynamic Response of Plates on Elastic Foundation to Moving Loads
A procedure incorporating the finite strip method and a spring system has been developed and applied to treat the dynamic response of plate structure resting on an elastic foundation to moving loads.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.
