Mean First Passage Time in Periodic Attractors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The properties of the mean first passage time in a system characterized by multiple periodic attractors are studied. Using a transformation from a high dimensional space to 1D, the problem is reduced to a stochastic process along the path from the fixed ...

Urban Traffic Noise Maps under 3D Complex Building Environments on a Supercomputer

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Transportation, 2018
The complexity of the 3D buildings and road networks gives the simulation of urban noise difficulty and significance. To solve the problem of computing complexity, a systematic methodology for computing urban traffic noise maps under 3D complex building ...

Effect of operating conditions on gearbox noise [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
Low contact ratio spur gears were tested in the NASA gear noise rig to study the noise radiated from the top of the gearbox. The measured sound power from the gearbox top was obtained from a near field acoustic intensity scan taken at 63 nodes just above

Noise-Adaptive Compiler Mappings for Noisy Intermediate-Scale Quantum Computers

open access: yes, 2019
A massive gap exists between current quantum computing (QC) prototypes, and the size and scale required for many proposed QC algorithms. Current QC implementations are prone to noise and variability which affect their reliability, and yet with less than ...

Revealing the structure of land plant photosystem II: the journey from negative‐stain EM to cryo‐EM

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Advances in cryo‐EM have revealed the detailed structure of Photosystem II, a key protein complex driving photosynthesis. This review traces the journey from early low‐resolution images to high‐resolution models, highlighting how these discoveries deepen our understanding of light harvesting and energy conversion in plants.

A direct D-bar reconstruction algorithm for recovering a complex conductivity in 2-D [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
A direct reconstruction algorithm for complex conductivities in $W^{2,\infty}(\Omega)$, where $\Omega$ is a bounded, simply connected Lipschitz domain in $\mathbb{R}^2$, is presented.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Large-Scale Sunyaev-Zel'dovich Effect: Measuring Statistical Properties with Multifrequency Maps [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
We study the prospects for extracting detailed statistical properties of the Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (SZ) effect associated with large scale structure using upcoming multifrequency CMB experiments.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.
