On the dynamic response of additively manufactured 316L stainless steel and the development of an orthotropic Johnson-Cook viscoplastic strength model [PDF]

open access: yes
Materials produced using additive manufacturing (AM) techniques are becoming evermore prevalent within industry, especially where complex designs render conventional manufacturing (CM) norms economically impractical. Understanding the mechanical response

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Suspension testing of 3 heavy vehicles - dynamic wheel force analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Three air-sprung heavy vehicles (HVs) were instrumented and tested on typical suburban and highway road sections at representative operational speeds.

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

Full-Scale Dynamic Testing of a Railway Bridge Using a Hydraulic Exciter [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
This paper presents a full-scale dynamic testing on a simply supported railway bridge with integrated end-shields, by using a hydraulic exciter. Experimental frequency response functions are determined based on load controlled frequency sweeps.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

A Cloud–Edge Collaborative Multi-Timescale Scheduling Strategy for Peak Regulation and Renewable Energy Integration in Distributed Multi-Energy Systems

open access: yesEnergies
Incorporating renewable energy sources into the grid poses challenges due to their volatility and uncertainty in optimizing dispatch strategies. In response, this article proposes a cloud–edge collaborative scheduling strategy for distributed multi ...

Dynamic modelling and testing of OPEC behaviour [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
Although conventional wisdom suggests that OPEC is a cartel, many studies since 1973 have focused on other underlying forces to explain and forecast OPEC behaviour. Economic theory suggests that natural resource producers should dynamically optimize, and

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

QUASI-DYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF THERMAL PERFORMANCE OF PARABOLIC TROUGH COLLECTORS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Thermal performance testing of parabolic trough collectors and collector loops plays an important role in prototype testing, collector certification and solar field commissioning.
