Structure-Based Screening of Deep-Sea Microbial Metabolites Against Plasmodium falciparum Dihydroorotate Dehydrogenase

open access: yesBiology
Malaria is a major global health concern caused by Plasmodium parasites, among which Plasmodium falciparum is responsible for the most severe and fatal cases.

Investigation of a Cabin Suspended and Articulated Rescue Vessel in Terms of Motion Reduction

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2022
To solve the problem that small rescue vessels are seriously affected by waves when working at sea, which causes damage to the crew and equipment, a catamaran with a suspended and articulated cabin is designed.

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Rapid discovery of three umami crab peptides from Eriocheir sinensis by virtual hydrolysis and LC–MS/MS

open access: yesFood Frontiers
Traditionally, Eriocheir sinensis elicits wide distribution, easy accessibility, and unique taste, but the low comprehensive utilization restricts its application. The present study aimed to extract and identify peptides from the defective E.

Method Research and Structural Design of Segmented Shrimp Clamping

open access: yesAgriculture, 2022
Clamping is the key factor that restricts the full-process mechanization of directional shrimp peeling. To solve the problem of difficult clamping caused by the uncertainty of shrimp position after orientation, a segmented shrimp clamping method was ...

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

Simulating the dynamics of complex plasmas [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2013
Complex plasmas are low-temperature plasmas that contain micrometer-size particles in addition to the neutral gas particles and the ions and electrons that make up the plasma. The microparticles interact strongly and display a wealth of collective effects. Here we report on linked numerical simulations that reproduce many of the experimental results of

Refinement of amino‐acid conformation vs. difference density maps in time‐resolved serial femtosecond crystallography data analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The dFoCC pipeline starts with observed DED and resting‐state coordinates, which are then used to generate a library of triggered states. Correlation analysis of the calculated DED features of each candidate vs observed DED permits quantitative evaluation of candidate structural quality.
