2004Bacterial colonization plays an important role in biliary stent occlusion.The process is characterized by the formation of a microbial biofilm on the inner surfaces of the polymeric stent Gram-positive bacteria, particularly E. faecalis and E. faecium, are often found to be responsible of biliary stent colonization.
