Drugs and oil flow through the Eagle Ford Shale [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
textThis report is a work of original reporting which investigates the proliferation of drug use and drug trafficking in the Eagle Ford Shale, a region of heavy oil and gas development in South Texas.

Aberrant expression of nuclear prothymosin α contributes to epithelial‐mesenchymal transition in lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nuclear prothymosin α inhibits epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in lung cancer by increasing Smad7 acetylation and competing with Smad2 for binding to SNAI1, TWIST1, and ZEB1 promoters. In early‐stage cancer, ProT suppresses TGF‐β‐induced EMT, while its loss in the nucleus in late‐stage cancer leads to enhanced EMT and poor prognosis.

Species-typical group size differentially influences social reward neural circuitry during nonreproductive social interactions

open access: yesiScience, 2022
Summary: We investigated whether nonreproductive social interactions may be rewarding for colonial but not non-colonial species. We found that the colonial spiny mouse (Acomys cahirinus) is significantly more gregarious, more prosocial, and less ...

Eagle's Syndrome, from clinical presentation to diagnosis and surgical treatment: a case report.

open access: yesActa otorhinolaryngologica italica, 2018
SUMMARY Eagle's syndrome is a condition associated with the elongation of the styloid process or calcification of the stylohyoid ligament, clinically characterised by throat and neck pain, radiating into the ear. In this report, we describe the case of a

The EAGLE simulations: atomic hydrogen associated with galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We examine the properties of atomic hydrogen (H I) associated with galaxies in the Evolution and Assembly of GaLaxies and their Environments (EAGLE) simulations of galaxy formation.

EAGLE-FLI: A Macroeconomic Model of Banking and Financial Interdependence in the Euro Area

open access: yesSocial Science Research Network, 2016
We incorporate financial linkages in EAGLE, a New Keynesian multi-country dynamic general equilibrium model of the euro area (EA) by including financial frictions and country-specific banking sectors.

"How much is enough?" Determining adequate levels of environmental compensation for wind power impacts using equivalency analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Environmental considerations at wind power developments require avoidance and mitigation of environmental impacts through proper citing, operational constraints, etc.

Determination of ADP/ATP translocase isoform ratios in malignancy and cellular senescence

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The individual functions of three isoforms exchanging ADP and ATP (ADP/ATP translocases; ANTs) on the mitochondrial membrane remain unclear. We developed a method for quantitatively differentiating highly similar human ANT1, ANT2, and ANT3 using parallel reaction monitoring. This method allowed us to assess changes in translocase levels during cellular

Small-scale galaxy clustering in the EAGLE simulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We study present-day galaxy clustering in the EAGLE cosmological hydrodynamical simulation. EAGLE's galaxy formation parameters were calibrated to reproduce the redshift $z=0.1$ galaxy stellar mass function, and the simulation also reproduces galaxy colours well.

EAGLE: An algorithm that utilizes a small number of genomic features to predict tissue/cell type-specific enhancer-gene interactions

open access: yesbioRxiv, 2019
Long-range regulation by distal enhancers is crucial for many biological processes. The existing methods for enhancer-target gene prediction often require many genomic features.
