The massive semidetached binary with a long-term decreasing orbital period may involve a rapid mass-transfer phase in Case A, and thus, they are good astrophysical laboratories for investigating the evolution of massive binary stars.

ABSTRACT Background Therapeutic apheresis (TA) is an established treatment modality for hematologic, neurologic, and immunologic disorders, yet access remains severely limited in sub‐Saharan Africa. Donor apheresis, including platelet apheresis collection from healthy donors, represents an important complementary modality supporting blood product ...

The Binary Fraction of B-type Runaway Stars from LAMOST DR8
Runaway stars are defined as stars that depart from their birth clusters at high peculiar velocities. There are two main mechanisms for the formation of runaway stars, i.e., the binary-supernova scenario (BSS) and the dynamical ejection scenario (DES ...

A study of runaway stars originating in the Scorpius-Centaurus-Lupus association
Context. Runaway stars are OB-type stars with an unusually high space velocity, and they originate in a stellar cluster. OB runaways are produced by dynamical ejection or by a supernova explosion in a multiple system, and a hybrid scenario is also ...

ABSTRACT Introduction Patients requiring long‐term continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) generally have poor prognoses. This study evaluated whether adding continuous intravenous sodium infusion (cIVNa) is associated with improved hemodynamics and outcomes in patients undergoing long‐term CRRT for ≥ 7 days.

The Cosmic Near Infrared Background: Remnant Light From Early Stars
The redshifted ultraviolet light from early stars at z similar to 10 contributes to the cosmic near infrared background (NIRB). We present detailed calculations of its spectrum with various assumptions about metallicity and mass spectrum of the early ...

CO TO H2 RATIO OF INTERSTELLAR MOLECULAR CLOUDS IN THE DIRECTIONS OF EARLY TYPE STARS [PDF]
We present measurements of interstellar CO absorption lines in the spectra of 7 early-type stars that were observed with the FUSE(Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer).

Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Tidal friction in early-type stars [PDF]
The tidal torque on an early-type star is concentrated near the boundary between the convective core and radiative envelope and a train of gravity waves is excited there. The angular momentum which the torque removes from the fluid is transported outward by the gravity waves, which carry negative angular momentum.

X-ray counterparts to stellar MeerKAT Galactic-plane compact radio sources
Context. Radio emission from magnetically active stars arises primarily from non-thermal processes and provides information complementary to their high-energy X-ray emission.
