Reconstructed Homo habilis type OH 7 suggests deep-rooted species diversity in early Homo

Nature, 2015
Besides Homo erectus (sensu lato), the eastern African fossil record of early Homo has been interpreted as representing either a single variable species, Homo habilis, or two species. In the latter case, however, there is no consensus over the respective groupings, and which of the two includes OH 7, the 1.8-million-year-old H. habilis holotype.

Ecological Energetics in Early Homo

Current Anthropology, 2012
Models for the origin of the genus Homo propose that increased quality of diet led to changes in ranging ecology and selection for greater locomotor economy, speed, and endurance. Here, I examine the fossil evidence for postcranial change in early Homo and draw on comparative data from living mammals to assess whether increased diet quality has led to ...

Early Homo erectus lived at high altitudes and produced both Oldowan and Acheulean tools

Science, 2023
In Africa, the scarcity of hominin remains found in direct association with stone tools has hindered attempts to link Homo habilis and Homo erectus with particular lithic industries.

Paleoecological evidence for environmental specialization in Paranthropus boisei compared to early Homo.

Journal of Human Evolution, 2023
Since the discovery of Paranthropus boisei alongside early Homo at Olduvai Gorge and East Turkana, paleoanthropologists have attempted to understand the different evolutionary paths of these two hominin lineages.

Mapping Early Pleistocene environments and the availability of plant food as a potential driver of early Homo presence in the Guadix-Baza Basin (Spain).

Journal of Human Evolution, 2021
The Guadix-Baza Basin, in SE Spain, harbors hominin fossils and lithic artifacts dated to ca. 1.4-1.3 Ma, representing the first hominin habitat in the Iberian Peninsula and possibly in Western Europe.
