Molecular Functions and Drug Prediction of MMP1 and TGFBR2 in Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, EarlyView.
MMP1 and TGFBR2 were validated by machine learning and external datasets as the candidate genes. Dexamethasone showed strong binding affinity to MMP1 (−7.72 kcal/mol) and TGFBR2 (−7.27 kcal/mol) in docking studies. Knockdown of MMP1 repressed the malignant phenotypes of NPC cells.

Feasibility and efficacy of fecal microbiota transplantation in adolescents with refractory irritable bowel syndrome: A randomized clinical pilot trial

open access: yesJournal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, EarlyView.
Abstract Objectives To assess the feasibility and efficacy of fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) in adolescents (16–21 years) with refractory irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Methods Randomized controlled pilot trial. Thirty‐two patients were included and randomized to receive two allogeneic or autologous FMTs.

Hodgkin lymphoma of the ampulla of Vater: A rare cause of obstructive jaundice in children

open access: yesJPGN Reports, EarlyView.
Abstract Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) has a wide spectrum of presentation. Most cases affect lymph nodes (nodal), while extranodal involvement is rare. Whereas the gastrointestinal tract is enriched with lymphoid tissues, the ampulla of Vater is not rich in lymphoid tissue. Involvement of the ampulla of Vater with HL has rarely been reported in adults and has

Refractory Eczema as a Presenting Feature of Common Variable Immunodeficiency

open access: yesJEADV Clinical Practice, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is the most prevalent symptomatic inborn error of immunity (IEI) in adults. It presents with recurrent infections and non‐infectious complications, including autoimmunity, lymphoproliferation and dermatitis.

Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) DNA in Sera of Patients with Primary EBV Infection

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Microbiology, 2001
ABSTRACT Detection of Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) DNA by PCR in serum had a sensitivity of 80%, a specificity of 94%, and positive and negative predictive values of 95 and 79%, respectively, for the diagnosis of primary EBV infection. We suggest that this is a useful addition to the panel of tests used for this purpose.

Juvenile Gangrenous Vasculitis of the Scrotum or Scrotum Lipschütz Ulcers

open access: yesJEADV Clinical Practice, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Lipschütz genital ulcers are traditionally described in adolescent females and often linked to acute viral infections. Their male counterpart remains poorly characterised. We report a 59‐year‐old man with sudden onset of unilateral necrotic ulcers on the scrotum and inguinal region following a brief febrile episode and mild pharyngitis ...

Radiotherapy‐Induced Otitis Media With Effusion in Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma: A Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
This meta‐analysis of eight studies comprising 582 NPC patients provides the first quantitative synthesis of radiotherapy‐induced otitis media with effusion (OME), demonstrating a significant overall risk difference of 0.18 (95% CI: −0.06 to 0.42, p < 0.0001) in OME naive ears.

Epstein-Barr virus infection of polarized epithelial cells via the basolateral surface by memory B cell-mediated transfer infection.

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2011
Epstein Barr virus (EBV) exhibits a distinct tropism for both B cells and epithelial cells. The virus persists as a latent infection of memory B cells in healthy individuals, but a role for infection of normal epithelial is also likely.
