The Chemistry of Ecdysones

Russian Chemical Reviews, 1971
Ecdysones ara a group of structurally similar steroid compounds with hormonal activity in the moulting and metamorphosis of insects. The review deals with the sources from which ecdysones are isolated, their structure determination, and methods for their partial synthesis.

Ecdysone Oxidase in Insects

Hoppe-Seyler´s Zeitschrift für physiologische Chemie, 1978
The occurrence of the enzyme ecdysone oxidase was demonstrated in several insect species. In blowflies it was detected mainly in eggs and pupae. The enzyme activity in blowflies varies during development parallel to the ecdysteroid content. This suggests a specific but presently unknown function of the enzyme. Ecdysone oxidase was located mainly in the

Effect of ecdysone and ecdysone analogues on two Balbiani rings of Acricotopus lucidus

Experimental Cell Research, 1972
Abstract The activity of two Balbiani rings (BR-3, BR-4) in the salivary gland of Acricotopus lucidus is controlled by ecdysone. This result agrees with our former conclusion worked out by indirect methods [22]. The injection of ecdysone and ecdysone analogues (ecdysterone, inokosterone) into the last instar larvae led to an inactivation of BR-3 ...

Gas chromatographic analysis of ecdysone

Experientia, 1970

Nonsteroidal Ecdysone Agonists

2005
Nonsteroidal ecdysone agonists are novel compounds that have become attractive candidates not only as pest control agents in agriculture but also as tools for research. Their narrow spectrum of activity makes them relatively safe as pesticides, and their mode of action as ligands for gene expression has found application in gene therapy and inducing ...

ECDYSONE AND ECDYSONE-ANALOGUES: THEIR ASSAY AND ACTION ON DIAPAUSING PUPAE OF THE CYNTHIA SILKWORM

The Biological Bulletin, 1968
1. Six ecdysones of plant origin are compared with synthetic α-ecdysone in terms of their ability to provoke normal or abnormal development of diapausing pupae and isolated pupal abdomens of the cynthia silkworm (Samia cynthia).2. The activity of the seven materials ranks in the following order: cyasterone > ponasterone B > ponasterone A > ponasterone ...

Ecdysone receptors and their biological actions

2000
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the ecdysone receptors and their biological actions. It also summarizes the insect endocrinology and the roles of these steroids in the molting and metamorphosis. Natural hormones that lead to molting and metamorphosis are ecdysones.

Ecdysone-controlled expression of transgenes

Expert Opinion on Biological Therapy, 2002
Inducible expression systems show great potential for use in human gene therapy and systems based on insect ecdysone receptors are particularly promising candidates. This article describes such systems and reviews actual and potential uses of ecdysone-controlled transgenes in vitro and in vivo.
