Tissue Doppler study in the diagnosis of functional disorders of the myocardium in patients with chronic heart failure

open access: yesRUDN Journal of Medicine, 2010
The article presents a comparative analysis of standard echocardiography and tissue Doppler method Rings atrioventricular valves in patients with chronic heart failure with a view to early diagnosis of functional disorders of the myocardium.

Atrial cardiomyopathy: From healthy atria to atrial failure. A clinical consensus statement of the Heart Failure Association of the ESC

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Heart Failure, EarlyView.
The diagnosis of atrial cardiomyopathy (AtCM) requires electrical atrial dysfunction, with evidence of either mechanical atrial dysfunction, atrial enlargement, or excessive atrial fibrosis. The diagnostic cut‐points presented are for standard electrocardiogram and echocardiogram studies (see Figure 1 for further detail).

Artificial intelligence fully automated analysis of handheld echocardiography in real‐world patients with suspected heart failure

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Artificial intelligence (AI) reporting of handheld echocardiography in a real‐life cohort of patients with suspected heart failure (HF). COPD, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; LVEF, left ventricular ejection fraction; NTproBNP, N‐terminal pro‐B‐type natriuretic peptide.

Cats with thermal burn injuries from California wildfires show echocardiographic evidence of myocardial thickening and intracardiac thrombi. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Recent increases in the prevalence and severity of wildfires in some regions have resulted in an increased frequency of veterinary burn patients. Few studies exist regarding diagnostics and management of burn wounds in veterinary patients and current ...

Integrated trajectories of systolic and diastolic function differentially associate with risk for heart failure with preserved and reduced ejection fraction and proteomic profiles

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Graphical overview of derivation and testing of multiparametric trajectories of cardiac function. This study identified six trajectories of LV systolic and diastolic function from mid‐ to late‐life. Predicted trajectory from single echocardiogram identified four trajectories at differential risk for HFpEF and HFrEF.

Low‐dose digoxin improves cardiac function in patients with heart failure, preserved ejection fraction and atrial fibrillation – the RATE‐AF randomized trial

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Summary of the change in left ventricular systolic and diastolic parameters from baseline to 12 months in patients with permanent atrial fibrillation (AF) and a left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) ≥50%. P‐values indicate the significance of the adjusted mean difference of the parameters at 12 months between the beta‐blocker and digoxin arm. E/e′,

Changes in hemodynamics of pulmonary artery using Flowire in a canine model of acute pulmonary thromboembolism

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine
Background Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a life‐threatening condition that can be triggered by pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE), which causes abrupt increases in pulmonary artery pressure and resistance.

Distinct blood volume and left ventricular adaptation to severe obesity in middle‐aged adults at risk for heart failure

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Obesity, blood volume and ventricular remodelling. BMI, body mass index; DEXA, dual‐energy X‐ray absorptiometry; IR, increased risk; LVEDV, left ventricular end‐diastolic volume; LVEDVi, left ventricular end‐diastolic volume index. Created in BioRender. Wakeham, D.

Diastolic Dysfunction and Doppler Echocardiography

open access: yesJournal of the American College of Cardiology, 2005
The recent review by Maurer et al. ([1][1]) on diastolic dysfunction was a welcome read. I concur completely with their observations that “have led us to fundamentally question whether diastolic dysfunction is the underlying pathologic mechanism of the heart failure syndrome in all ...
