Unravelling the spatial and temporal variability of natural disturbances in European forests
The heterogeneity of natural disturbance patterns and high temporal variability across European Forest suggest the need of adopting context‐dependent management strategies tailored to both the dominant disturbance agent and local environmental conditions, particularly in the most vulnerable regions, such as the Iberian Peninsula—with large and frequent

Tent‐roosting bats in the Lacandon Forest, Mexico, play a previously undocumented role in dispersing large seeds (> 5 mm) from mature forest species with important ecological and human uses. Sampling 21 feeding tents across two protected areas yielded 2137 seeds from 54 species, with seed deposition rates significantly higher under bat tents than in ...

Forest structure and connectivity drive the functional recovery of seed rain
Local forest structure and landscape‐scale connectivity shape distinct but complementary pathways of the functional recovery of seed rain in tropical forests. Structural complexity promotes functionally diverse plant–frugivore interactions locally, while connectivity facilitates the arrival of late‐successional seeds from external sources.

CORPORATE FUTURES, ENERGY TRANSITION, AND NATURAL PROSTHETICS IN COLOMBIA'S CESAR MINING CORRIDOR
ABSTRACT This essay examines the socioecological transformations of mining and post‐mining landscapes in the mining corridor of the Cesar Department, northern Colombia. When an open pit mine is about to close or has recently closed, companies promote post‐mining strategies framed as ecosystem restoration and social compensation.

Our results can be used by stakeholders to select the species best suited for active restoration projects in bracken‐dominated areas throughout the tropical region. Furthermore, our trait‐based approach, which considers seedling performance in disturbed areas, can serve as a guide for species selection in restoration programmes in other disturbed ...
