Fluoranthene degradation in a persulfate system activated by sulfidated nano zero-valent iron (S-nZVI): performance and mechanisms

open access: yesWater Science and Technology
Fluoranthene (FLT) has received mounting focus due to its hazardous properties and frequent occurrence in groundwater. In this study, sulfidated nano zero-valent iron (S-nZVI) was selected as an efficient catalyst for activating persulfate (PS) to ...

Synthetic ShK-like Peptide from the Jellyfish Nemopilema nomurai Has Human Voltage-Gated Potassium-Channel-Blocking Activity

open access: yesMarine Drugs
We identified a new human voltage-gated potassium channel blocker, NnK-1, in the jellyfish Nemopilema nomurai based on its genomic information. The gene sequence encoding NnK-1 contains 5408 base pairs, with five introns and six exons.

The Private and Public Insurance Value of Conservative Biodiversity Management [PDF]

open access: yes
The ecological literature suggests that biodiversity reduces the variance of ecosystem services. Thus, conservative biodiversity management has an insurance value to risk-averse users of ecosystem services.

Heuristically Adaptive Diffusion‐Model Evolutionary Strategy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Building on the mathematical equivalence between diffusion models and evolutionary algorithms, researchers demonstrate unprecedented control over evolutionary optimization through conditional diffusion. By training diffusion models to associate parameters with specific traits, they can guide evolution toward solutions exhibiting desired behaviors ...
