Studies on mosquitoes (Diptera: Culicidae) and anthropic environment: 6 - Breeding in empty conditions of rice fields in South-Eastern Brazil

open access: yesRevista de Saúde Pública
Studies on culicid breeding in empty rice fields were carried out during the cultivation cycle from May to November 1993. This period corresponded to stages 1 and 2, when empty conditions prevailed.

A detailed redescription of a skeletally immature ‘Redondasaurus’ suggests ontogenetic transformations in the taxon mirror phytosaurian morphological evolution

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The study of morphological evolution is fundamentally tied to ontogeny, yet studies of these heterochronic processes in the fossil record are rare. Fossils belonging to an ontogenetic series are difficult to assign to an ontogenetic stage due to inconsistent proxies for skeletal ages, challenging to taxonomically assign due to morphological ...

Aedes albopictus in an area of Misiones, Argentina

open access: yesRevista de Saúde Pública
Until early 1998 the presence of Aedes albopictus had never been detected in Argentina. During April of the same year, few individuals of this species were recorded in 33 breeding sites found in 25 out of 161 inspected houses in the city of Eldorado ...

3D anatomical atlas of the heads of male and female adult Chamaeleo calyptratus

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
The veiled chameleon is a model organism in reptile development research. Utilizing contrast‐enhanced microCT and deep learning segmentation models, we have generated the first digital atlases of the skull, nervous system, cranial muscles and hyolingual muscles.

Multi‐method analysis for the three‐dimensional reconstruction of muscle fascicles from DiceCT datasets

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Muscle architecture is a major determinant of muscle performance and, in mammalian lineages, has been correlated with both feeding ecology and locomotor behaviors. Over the past decade, contrast‐enhanced micro‐CT (DiceCT) has emerged as an alternative to traditional dissection‐based measurement.

Studies on mosquitoes (Diptera: Culicidae) and anthropic environment: 3- Survey of adult stages at the rice irrigation system and the emergence of Anopheles albitarsis in South-Eastern, Brazil

open access: yesRevista de Saúde Pública
A study of adult Culicidae ecology was carried out from January 1992 through January 1993 at the rice irrigation system of the Ribeira Valley Experimental Station. The adaptation of Anopheles albitarsis to the anthropic environment became evident through

Previously undocumented regional variability in crab‐eating macaque skull sexual dimorphism and its implications for biological and morphometric studies

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract In a large sample of adult crab‐eating macaques, we quantified sexual dimorphism in size, shape, and covariance across the whole skull and among anatomical regions of the cranium and mandible. All regions showed significant mean sex differences, but the magnitude of size and shape dimorphism varied substantially.

Evolutionary radiation of large‐bodied gorgonopsians from the lower Abrahamskraal formation of South Africa

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The middle Permian represents a critical interval in therapsid evolution, when gorgonopsians emerged as some of the first specialized apex predators within terrestrial ecosystems. Despite their significance, the early diversification of Gorgonopsia in Gondwana remains poorly understood due to scarcity and fragmentary material.
