Protein misfolding is considered a key event in the pathogenesis of polyglutamine disease such as Machado–Joseph disease (MJD). Overexpression of chaperone proteins and the application of chemical chaperones are reported to suppress polyglutamine induced

Machine Learning‐based Diagnostic Potential of Bipolar Disorder Using Gut Microbiota Signatures
Bipolar disorder (BD) has been linked to gut microbiota dysbiosis through the microbiota–gut–brain axis. Using 16S rRNA sequencing and machine learning, we found reduced microbial diversity, altered composition and identified 35 microbial biomarkers that enabled highly accurate BD diagnosis (AUC up to 0.95).

Examining the Osmotic Response of Acidihalobacter aeolianus after Exposure to Salt Stress
Acidihalobacter aeolianus is an acidophilic, halo-tolerant organism isolated from a marine environment near a hydrothermal vent, an ecosystem whereby levels of salinity and total dissolved salts are constantly fluctuating creating ongoing cellular ...

Nitrifiers in the Baltic Sea show persistent abundance in aphotic waters and late‐fall to winter photic zone increases positively correlated with nutrients and negatively with light and chlorophyll. Through selective enrichment, five novel ammonia‐oxidising archaea genomes were recovered, including the dominant aphotic taxon, which revealed overall ...

Role of central metabolism in the osmoadaptation of the halophilic bacterium chromohalobacter salexigens [PDF]
Bacterial osmoadaptation involves the cytoplasmic accumulation of compatible solutes to counteract extracellular osmolarity. The halophilic and highly halotolerant bacterium Chromohalobacter salexigens is able to grow up to 3 M NaCl in a minimal medium ...

The Diverse Roles of the Histone‐Like Nucleoid Structuring (H‐NS) Protein in Vibrio parahaemolyticus
The histone‐like nucleoid structuring (H‐NS) protein is a global transcriptional regulator critical for bacterial genome organization and gene expression. In Vibrio parahaemolyticus, H‐NS represses virulence factors such as thermostable direct hemolysin (TDH), type III secretion systems (T3SS1/T3SS2), and type VI secretion systems (T6SS1/T6SS2).

Osmotic stress confers enhanced cell integrity to hydrostatic pressure but impairs growth in Alcanivorax borkumensis SK2 [PDF]
Alcanivorax is a hydrocarbonoclastic genus dominating oil spills worldwide. While its presence has been detected in oil-polluted seawaters, marine sediment and salt marshes under ambient pressure, its presence in deep-sea oil-contaminated environments is
