Predictive evolutionary genomics: principles, validation, and practice

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Climate change and habitat loss are driving rapid evolutionary responses in populations world‐wide, which creates an urgent need for evolutionary forecasting in conservation and agriculture. Such forecasting can be categorized into three time scales: trait‐based models that use multivariate quantitative genetic equations to project correlated ...

Crisis Leadership Beyond the Flame: A Human‐Centered Crisis Expectations Model and Its Implications for Research, Policy, and Practice

open access: yesRisk, Hazards &Crisis in Public Policy, Volume 17, Issue 3, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Disasters and crises disrupt lives and test the capacities of governments and organizations. While their immediate aftermath is often marked by uncertainty and disruption, recurrent patterns in how individuals are affected give rise to foreseeable hardships.

Drivers of bat researchers’ intent to adopt field hygiene practices

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 40, Issue 4, August 2026.
Abstract Infectious disease is a growing threat to wildlife, with zoonotic transmission most likely at the human–wildlife interface. One underappreciated activity at this interface is fieldwork with wild animals, but associated risks can be mitigated through field hygiene (FH) practices, such as using personal protective equipment and other appropriate

Exploring legal‐ and health‐risk messaging to reduce demand for elephant skin

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 40, Issue 4, August 2026.
Abstract Asian elephants (Elephas maximus) are poached for an illegal trade in their skins, which are used in traditional medicine in Africa and Asia. We explored whether messages about the legal and health risks of using elephant skin for medicinal purposes (stomach illness) could reduce such consumption.

Forest structure and connectivity drive the functional recovery of seed rain

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 114, Issue 2, February 2026.
Local forest structure and landscape‐scale connectivity shape distinct but complementary pathways of the functional recovery of seed rain in tropical forests. Structural complexity promotes functionally diverse plant–frugivore interactions locally, while connectivity facilitates the arrival of late‐successional seeds from external sources.

Coalition Opportunity Structures and Advocacy Coordination in Consensus and Majoritarian Democracies

open access: yesPolicy Studies Journal, Volume 54, Issue 1, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Research on advocacy coalitions suggests that belief homophily—the tendency of actors to coordinate based on shared policy beliefs—drives coalition formation. However, coalition opportunity structures, which are shaped by institutional contexts, may influence the extent to which belief homophily matters.

A fast preliminary estimation model for transoceanic tsunami propagation
