Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Angular Spectral Density and Information Entropy for Eddy Current Distribution

open access: yesEntropy, 2016
Here, a new method is proposed to quantitatively evaluate the eddy current distribution induced by different exciting coils of an eddy current probe. Probability of energy allocation of a vector field is modeled via conservation of energy and imitating ...

Association of Corticospinal Tract Asymmetry With Ambulatory Ability After Intracerebral Hemorrhage

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Ambulatory ability after intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is important to patients. We tested whether asymmetry between ipsi‐ and contra‐lesional corticospinal tracts (CSTs) assessed by diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) is associated with post‐ICH ambulation.

Nondestructive testing of metallic cables based on a homogenized model and global measurements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We propose a simple, quick, and cost-effective method for nondestructive eddy-current testing of metallic cables. Inclusions in the cross section of the cable are detected on the basis of certain global data: hysteresis loop measurements for different ...

Glymphatic Dysfunction Reflects Post‐Concussion Symptoms: Changes Within 1 Month and After 3 Months

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) may alter glymphatic function; however, its progression and variability remain obscure. This study examined glymphatic function following mTBI within 1 month and after 3 months post‐injury to determine whether variations in glymphatic function are associated with post‐traumatic symptom severity ...

Shape-based defect classification for Non Destructive Testing

open access: yes, 2015
The aim of this work is to classify the aerospace structure defects detected by eddy current non-destructive testing. The proposed method is based on the assumption that the defect is bound to the reaction of the probe coil impedance during the test ...

Eddy current testing probe optimization using a parallel genetic algorithm [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This paper uses the developed parallel version of Michalewicz's Genocop III Genetic Algorithm (GA) searching technique to optimize the coil geometry of an eddy current non-destructive testing probe (ECTP). The electromagnetic field is computed using FEMM

Lessons Learned From a Delayed‐Start Trial of Modafinil for Freezing of Gait in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Freezing of gait (FOG) in people with Parkinson's disease (PwPD) is debilitating and has limited treatments. Modafinil modulates beta/gamma band activity in the pedunculopontine nucleus (PPN), like PPN deep brain stimulation. We therefore tested the hypothesis that Modafinil would improve FOG in PwPD.

Surface Eddy Current Probes: Excitation Systems of the Optimal Electromagnetic Field (Review)

open access: yesПриборы и методы измерений, 2020
Development of technical tools with improved metrological and operational characteristics is the actual problem of the eddy current testing. Ensuring the optimal distribution of the electromagnetic excitation field in the testing zone carries out ...

Assessing Head Check Crack Growth by Eddy-Current Testing

open access: yesInfrastructures, 2023
Managing head checks is a crucial task for an infrastructure manager as in case of deep cracks, rails can break and, thus, accidents might be the consequence.
