Decreasing EDFA transients by power shaping

Optical Switching and Networking, 2008
Multi-wavelength optical networks make extensive use of erbium-doped optical amplifiers (EDFAs) to offset the effects of fiber attenuation and signal power splitting. As optical networking moves towards burst and packet switching, the effects of changes of optical power levels on one wavelength, or channel, can have an impact on the behavior of other ...

Three-stage six-pass EDFA preamplifier design and EDFA parameters’ optimization

Optical and Quantum Electronics, 2021
In this study, three-stage six-pass erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) is performed. The mathematical model to characterize this proposed EDFA are also developed. During the design process, EDFA's input signal wavelengths, EDF lengths and pump powers are optimized.

S-EDFA and R-EDFA polarization properties comparison

Optics Communications, 2005
Experimental results on the behavior of the polarization state of the amplified optical signal for two configurations of erbium doped fiber amplifier: single pass erbium doped fiber amplifier (S-EDFA) and reflective erbium doped fiber amplifier (R-EDFA) employing a circulator and a faraday rotator mirror (FRM) are reported in this paper.
