Open EDFA gain spectrum dataset and its applications in data-driven EDFA gain modeling
Journal of Optical Communications and Networking, 2023Optical networks satisfy high bandwidth and low latency requirements for telecommunication networks and data center interconnection. To improve network resource utilization, machine learning (ML) is used to accurately model optical amplifiers such as erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs), which impact end-to-end system performance such as quality of ...

We propose a new parameter to describe the noise performance of erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs). ft is based on the fact that the noise of a laser amplified by an EDFA is very similar (formally and substantially) to the noise of a laser with a higher relative intensity noise (RIN).

This paper presents the analysis of Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA) operated in the saturation regime for high output signal power. Results indicate that Er 3+ doped silica fibers with higher numerical aperture and erbium ion concentration can be used as efficient, high gain power amplifiers in the 1.55micrometers region.

Broadband EDFA With Flat Gain Response
Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Europe, 1996Dense WDM techniques in lightwave networks increase transmission capacity and improve system flexibility. Gain flatness of conventional EDFAs limits the number of WDM channels. Several techniques1,2 for EDFA gain equalization have been investigated, but with various shortcomings.

Gain flattening of EDFA using hybrid EDFA/RFA with reduced channel spacing
2016 3rd International Conference on Signal Processing and Integrated Networks (SPIN), 2016An efficient model of gain flattened hybrid optical amplifier consisting of Erbium doped fiber amplifier and Raman amplifier (EDFA/ RFA) is proposed for 20×50 Gbps WDM system. This hybrid configuration has properties of both the amplifiers. The wavelength used for this optimization ranges from 1569 nm to 1577 nm, which lies in the C-band of optical ...

In long-haul communications, erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) operate at a particular wavelength to produce the optimal level of dispersion. The gain spectrum of the ions can be used to filter the accumulated amplified spontaneous emission in such a system.1 To optimally use this autofiltering, the gain-peak wavelength (GPW) of the chain must ...
