Gain flattening of EDFA using hybrid EDFA/RFA with reduced channel spacing

2016 3rd International Conference on Signal Processing and Integrated Networks (SPIN), 2016
An efficient model of gain flattened hybrid optical amplifier consisting of Erbium doped fiber amplifier and Raman amplifier (EDFA/ RFA) is proposed for 20×50 Gbps WDM system. This hybrid configuration has properties of both the amplifiers. The wavelength used for this optimization ranges from 1569 nm to 1577 nm, which lies in the C-band of optical ...

Evolution of Commercial EDFAs

Optical Fiber Communication Conference/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference 2011, 2011
Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifiers (EDFAs) play crucial role in modern optical telecommunication networks. As the networks evolve, commercial EDFAs faces technical challenges that have to be solved within constrains of ever changing industry.

Compact optical module for EDFA

Proceedings of 1995 Japan International Electronic Manufacturing Technology Symposium, 2002
There is some problem to construct a small sized EDFA (Erbium doped fiber amplifier), because it contains many optical components, optical fibers and fusion-splice portions, which require large mounting space and careful quality control. To solve such problem, we have developed compact optical modules for a 1.48 /spl mu/m pumping EDFA.

Nobel Functions of Multicore EDFA

2021 IEEE Photonics Conference (IPC), 2021
We describe a new functions of the cladding pumping multicore EDFA to extend the distance of space division multiplexing transmission. As a typical example, it is reported that core-to-core crosstalk can be reduced by applying a propagation direction interleaved configuration.

Polarization Hole Burning in EDFA

Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2012
A new model for Polarization Hole Burning (PHB) in EDFA is derived from fundamental assumptions and is confirmed by experimental results for PHB of EDFA measured both over signal wavelength and power.

EDFA for SCM transmission systems

Conference Proceedings LEOS'96 9th Annual Meeting IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society, 2002
Recently, the application of erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) to access networks with an analogue subcarrier multiplexing (SCM) transmission technique has been investigated. For CATV systems, the EDFAs need to maintain their low noise and distortion characteristics without using high quality but expensive optical components.

In the wake of the EDFA [PDF]

open access: possible, 2006
The huge investment made by the telecommunications community in advancing photonics over the last three decades brings a considerable opportunity to disrupt other markets with new optical technology. Exploiting the wealth of devices and techniques developed for telecoms in other areas of technology requires a clear view of the advantages which optical ...

Gain and Noise figure performance of erbium doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) and Compact EDFAs

Optik, 2011
Abstract In this paper, we compare the Gain and Noise figure characteristics of physical EDFAs and Compact EDFAs in an optical system consisting of cascade of both the amplifiers. We demonstrate the gain, noise figure variations of a forward pumped EDFA and Compact EDFAs as functions of Er 3+ fiber length, injected pump power and up-conversion co ...

Four-wave mixing in EDFAs

Optical Fiber Communication Conference. Technical Digest Postconference Edition. Trends in Optics and Photonics Vol.37 (IEEE Cat. No. 00CH37079), 2002
We study FWM in C- and L-band EDFAs. We observe that FWM efficiency is determined by fiber length and channel spacing. We show that FWM from EDFAs exceeds that from non-zero dispersion-shifted fiber in DWDM system.
