Ultra-Low DMG Multimode EDFA

Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2017
We demonstrate amplification in a multimode cladding-pumped fiber amplifier supporting 36 spatial modes. Using a large core EDF, we obtain

Smart EDFA with embedded control

LEOS 2001. 14th Annual Meeting of the IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society (Cat. No.01CH37242), 2002
We present a novel erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) with electronic gain and output power control, which only uses the total optical power measured at different points of EDFA as the control parameter. With this simple control mechanism, this EDFA is capable of very fast surviving channel gain control caused by 15 dB add/drop power excursions, and ...

Four-wave mixing in EDFAs

Optical Fiber Communication Conference. Technical Digest Postconference Edition. Trends in Optics and Photonics Vol.37 (IEEE Cat. No. 00CH37079), 2002
We study FWM in C- and L-band EDFAs. We observe that FWM efficiency is determined by fiber length and channel spacing. We show that FWM from EDFAs exceeds that from non-zero dispersion-shifted fiber in DWDM system.

Compact optical module for EDFA

Proceedings of 1995 Japan International Electronic Manufacturing Technology Symposium, 2002
There is some problem to construct a small sized EDFA (Erbium doped fiber amplifier), because it contains many optical components, optical fibers and fusion-splice portions, which require large mounting space and careful quality control. To solve such problem, we have developed compact optical modules for a 1.48 /spl mu/m pumping EDFA.

Gain equalization of EDFA cascades

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 1997
Investigates the impact of wavelength-dependent erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) gain spectrum on multichannel direct-detection lightwave transmission systems employing multiple amplifiers. An analysis is presented which quantifies the constraints imposed by received power imbalance, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and receiver sensitivity on an EDFA ...

Hybrid EDFA/Raman Amplifiers

2004
This chapter describes the technologies needed for cascading an erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) and a fiber Raman amplifier (FRA or RA) to create a hybrid amplifier (HA), the EDFA/Raman HA. Two kinds of HA are defined in this chapter: the narrowband HA (NB-HA) and the seamless and wideband HA (SWB-HA).

EDFA for SCM transmission systems

Conference Proceedings LEOS'96 9th Annual Meeting IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society, 2002
Recently, the application of erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) to access networks with an analogue subcarrier multiplexing (SCM) transmission technique has been investigated. For CATV systems, the EDFAs need to maintain their low noise and distortion characteristics without using high quality but expensive optical components.

EDFAS Celebrates Its 15th Anniversary

EDFA Technical Articles, 2013
Abstract This column notes the 15th anniversary of the Electronic Device Failure Analysis Society (EDFAS). The columnist explains how he and his employer have benefitted from his involvement with EDFAS and participation in the annual ISTFA conference.

Comparison of laboratory measurements on an EDFA with simulation results obtained using EDFA-Design

Proceedings of 2001 3rd International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (IEEE Cat. No.01EX488), 2002
A comparison of measurements and simulations on an erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) is given. A commercial program (EDFA-Design(R)) was used for the simulations. Measurement results were obtained during the MSc. project of the corresponding author in the Institute of Telecommunications and Acoustics in Wroclaw University of Technology.

EDFA and EDFL Review

2011
In this chapter, I propose a comprehensive study of erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) and erbium doped fiber laser (EDFL). The chapter is based on three principal levels: the first is at the atomic level, where it is evident and meaningful to give general and deep studies on erbium spectra at theoretical background angle.
