Evolution of Commercial EDFAs

Optical Fiber Communication Conference/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference 2011, 2011
Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifiers (EDFAs) play crucial role in modern optical telecommunication networks. As the networks evolve, commercial EDFAs faces technical challenges that have to be solved within constrains of ever changing industry.

Nobel Functions of Multicore EDFA

2021 IEEE Photonics Conference (IPC), 2021
We describe a new functions of the cladding pumping multicore EDFA to extend the distance of space division multiplexing transmission. As a typical example, it is reported that core-to-core crosstalk can be reduced by applying a propagation direction interleaved configuration.

Comparative Characteristics between L-Band EDFA, L-Band EDFA Utilising Single FBG and Dual Stage L-Band EDFA Utilising Dual FBG Configurations

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2015
The development was conducted with three configurations of L-Band EDFA, L-Band EDFA utilising Single FBG and Dual Stage L-Band EDFA utilising Dual FBG. The configurations utilising the FBG using 35 meter M-12 Fibercore EDF as the gain medium to amplify the input signal power in the L-band region.

DOUBLE PASS S-BAND EDFA

Journal of Nonlinear Optical Physics & Materials, 2006
A double-pass erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) based on a depressed cladding erbium-doped fiber, which operates in the short wavelength (S-band) region is proposed and demonstrated. This amplifier provides a small signal gain as high as 30 dB at 1500 nm, using only 15 m depressed cladding erbium-doped fiber (EDF) and 130 mW of 980 nm pump power ...

Multistage EDFA-circulator-based designs

Optical Fiber Communications Conference, 1995
Reflective optical amplifier configurations based on circulators provide improved performance compared to their single-ended- topology counterparts. Besides better pump efficiency,1 the multistage reflective amplifiers offer possibilities for gain-equalization means,2 ASE filtering, add–drop functions,3 and dispersion compensation ...

Polarization Hole Burning in EDFA

Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2012
A new model for Polarization Hole Burning (PHB) in EDFA is derived from fundamental assumptions and is confirmed by experimental results for PHB of EDFA measured both over signal wavelength and power.

Cladding-Pumped Coupled-Core EDFA

2018 IEEE Photonics Society Summer Topical Meeting Series (SUM), 2018
We demonstrate a 4-core cladding-pumped EDFA for coupled-core transmission, the amplifying fiber is designed to have mode coupling between cores for better overlap of pump and signal wavelengths. Mode dependent gain variation of less than 4 dB was obtained.

Challenges toward burst-mode EDFA

2009 7th International Conference on Information, Communications and Signal Processing (ICICS), 2009
We made breakthrough of EDFA for burst-mode operation. This can be realized by refining and optimization of EDFA itself without any controlling such as AGC or optical feedback loop. Our approach was alleviation of saturation and was not compensation but mitigation.
