Contact and edge effects in graphene devices
Nature Nanotechnology, 2008Electrical transport studies on graphene have been focused mainly on the linear dispersion region around the Fermi level and, in particular, on the effects associated with the quasiparticles in graphene behaving as relativistic particles known as Dirac fermions. However, some theoretical work has suggested that several features of electron transport in

Minimum Contact Resistance in Monoelemental 2D Material Nanodevices With Edge-Contacts
IEEE Electron Device Letters, 2021We use atomistic quantum transport device simulations to investigate the contact resistance (RC) in monoelemental 2D material nanoribbon MOSFETs with edge contacts. The consequences of attaching metal electrodes to source/drain regions are investigated for various metal-channel interaction strengths and nanoribbon dimensions.

Modeling Contact Resistivity in Monolayer Molybdenum disulfide Edge contacts
2021 International Conference on Simulation of Semiconductor Processes and Devices (SISPAD), 2021We calculate the resistivity of Schottky edge contacts between a metal and a transition-metal dichalcogenide (TMD) thin layer. The electrostatic potential is obtained by solving numerically the Poisson equation; the transmission probability is computed using the Wentzel–Kramers–Brillouin (WKB) approximation using the full-band density of states ...

Contact modelling in the vicinity of an edge
Surface and Coatings Technology, 2001In this paper the problem of a spherical contact in the vicinity of an edge will be considered by analytical modelling and nanoindentation experiments. This problem attracts interest because of the increasing use of nanoindentation as a tool for the investigation of mechanical property profiles of cross-sectioned samples.

Role of Edge Contact in the Provision of Contact Strength of Gears
Metal Science and Heat Treatment, 2002Experimental studies and operational data show that the contact strength of heat-treated involute gears in gear sets is limited by edge scoring. Edge scoring and edge contact are a consequence of the mesh interference as a result of the deformation of the teeth under load and of mesh errors.

A model of edge-to-edge contact for three-dimensional discontinuous deformation analysis
Computers and Geotechnics, 2007Abstract The key to three-dimensional discontinuous deformation analysis (3D DDA) is a rigorous contact theory that governs the interaction of many three-dimensional blocks. Such a theory must provide ways to judge contact types and contact locations and also formulas for contact submatrices.

Contact Edge Roughness: Characterization and modeling
Microelectronic Engineering, 2011In this paper, first we clarify the differences between Contact Edge Roughness (CER) and Line Edge Roughness (LER) emanating from the circular form of the contact edge. Then, we investigate the effects of these differences on the characterization of the spatial and frequency aspects of CER: We define the height-height correlation function for a ...

Analysis of edge effects on rail—wheel contact
Wear, 1990Abstract This study considers the contact occurring in rail-wheel systems. Here the edge effect of the gauge face of the rail on the contact stress and contact geometry is investigated. The rail head is modeled as a three-dimensional elastic wedge which may have an arbitrary wedge angle.

Cold Regions Science and Technology, 1992
Abstract A model of ice loads and failure during ice-structure contact is proposed. The model is shown to be in good agreement with measured ice load data. The causes of variability and randomness in ice loads are addressed. Chaos theory is employed to analyze the behavior of the iterative sequence of cracks in the model.

Abstract2D semiconductors, such as MoS2 have emerged as promising ultrathin channel materials for the further scaling of field‐effect transistors (FETs). However, the contact barrier at the metal‐2D semiconductor junctions still significantly limits the device's performance.
