Percolating contact subnetworks on the edge of isostaticity

Granular Matter, 2011
We search for a percolating, strong subnetwork of contacts in a quasi-statically deforming, frictional granular material. Of specific interest in this study is that subnetwork which contributes to the majority of the total deviator stress and is, or is on the edge of being, isostatic.

Edge Forces in Contacting Graphene Layers

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 2015
Temperature- and stiffness-dependent edge forces offer new mechanisms of designing nanodevices driven by temperature and stiffness gradients. Here, we investigate the edge forces in a graphene nanolayer on a spring supported graphene substrate based on molecular dynamics (MD) simulations.

Edge-Mediated Charge Deposition at 2D Contact

ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces
Electrical charge deposition modulates carrier mobility in electronic devices and governs interfacial processes such as frictional energy dissipation and triboelectric power generation. Selective charge deposition on 2D materials enables logic and memory functions, but controlling charge transfer and trapping remains a challenge.

Mechanics of edge effects on frictionlesscontacts

International Journal of Solids and Structures, 1995
This paper investigates edge phenomena by considering elastic contact near the edge of a wedge with varying wedge angle. Previous two-dimensional analysis is first reviewed and discussed to develop an understanding of the mechanics when edges are in contact. Three-dimensional wedge contact is then considered. The integral equation for rigid indentation

Wrinkled Edges on Soft Contact Lenses

Clinical and Experimental Optometry, 1981
Wrinkling of the edges of some ultrathin soft contact lenses is reported, possibly as a result of partial dehydration in combination with heat disinfection and chemical preservatives. Wrinkling has been observed after a short period of wear, and generally does not cause any patient discomfort.

Edges, contacts and the quantized hall effect

2007
A discussion of the quantum Hall effect is presented which explicity describes the current and voltage contacts of a Hall sample. An explicit description of contacts is necessary whenever contacts are spaced closely compared to an equilibration length.
