RNA editing [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Reviews, 1999
The term RNA editing describes those molecular processes in which the information content is altered in an RNA molecule. To date such changes have been observed in tRNA. rRNA and mRNA molecules of eukaryotes, but not prokaryotes. The demonstration of RNA editing in prokaryotes may only be a matter of time, considering the range of species in which the ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Carry on editing [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Medical Bulletin, 2018
Genome editing facilitates alterations to DNA, large or subtle, in a precise fashion. In its most popular form it uses the programmable endonuclease system, CRISPR/Cas9. Edits can be made to any genome, including the human genome. This raises the possibility of genome editing in human embryos in both a research and reproductive context. All reports of ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Cardiomyocyte Specific Deletion of ADAR1 Causes Severe Cardiac Dysfunction and Increased Lethality

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2020
Background: Adenosine deaminase acting on RNA 1 (ADAR1) is a double-stranded RNA-editing enzyme that is involved in several functions including the deamination of adenosine to inosine, RNA interference (RNAi) mechanisms and microRNA (miRNA) processing ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
