Proteome analysis of Edwardsiella ictaluri

PROTEOMICS, 2009
AbstractEdwardsiella ictaluri is a facultative intracellular Gram‐negative bacterium causing enteric septicemia of catfish (ESC), the most prevalent disease affecting farm‐raised channel catfish in the United States. Despite its economic importance, studies addressing high‐throughput proteomics were not possible because of lack of comprehensive protein

Synergistic infection of Edwardsiella ictaluri and Flavobacterium oreochromis in cage cultured tilapia (Oreochromis sp.).

Journal of Fish Diseases, 2023
Widespread distribution of a highly pathogenic Edwardsiella ictaluri strain in farmed tilapia in northern Vietnam has recently been reported. The subsequent investigation noticed a disease outbreak occurred at five nearby tilapia farms with floating ...

Sequencing and Analysis of the Edwardsiella ictaluri Plasmids

Plasmid, 2001
To determine possible functions of the Edwardsiella ictaluri plasmids, pEI1 and pEI2, we analyzed the sequence of both plasmids. Plasmid pEI1 is 4807 bp, with 51% G + C, and 23 possible open reading frames of 40 amino acids or greater. Plasmid pEI2 is 5643 bp, with 51% G + C, and 24 possible reading frames.

Influence of probiotic and prebiotic supplementation on intestinal microbiota and resistance to Edwardsiella ictaluri infection in channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus) following florfenicol administration.

Journal of Fish Diseases, 2023
Enteric septicemia of catfish (ESC), caused by the gram-negative enteric bacteria Edwardsiella ictaluri, is a significant threat to catfish aquaculture in the southeastern United States.

Comparison of Vietnamese and US isolates of Edwardsiella ictaluri

Diseases of Aquatic Organisms, 2013
We compared Edwardsiella ictaluri from striped catfish in Vietnam with US channel catfish isolates. Biochemical analyses and sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene confirmed that the Vietnamese isolates were E. ictaluri. Comparison using rep-PCR fingerprinting demonstrated no significant differences between the isolates, but plasmid analysis indicated that ...

Construction and evaluation of an Edwardsiella ictaluri fhuC mutant

Veterinary Microbiology, 2013
Edwardsiella ictaluri is a Gram-negative facultative intracellular pathogen causing enteric septicemia in channel catfish. Iron is an essential micronutrient needed for bacterial virulence, and to acquire iron, many Gram-negative bacteria secrete ferric iron chelating siderophores. The ferric hydroxamate uptake (Fhu) system consists of four genes (fhuC,

Iron supplementation in the diets of hybrid catfish (Ictalurus punctatus × I. furcatus) juveniles affected haematocrit levels and potentially decreased disease resistance to Edwardsiella ictaluri.

Journal of Fish Diseases, 2023
To prevent catfish idiopathic anaemia, diets fortified with iron have been adopted as a regular practice on commercial catfish farms to promote erythropoiesis.

A MEDIUM FOR THE SELECTIVE ISOLATION OF EDWARDSIELLA ICTALURI

Journal of Wildlife Diseases, 1990
A selective medium, called Edwardsiella ictaluri medium (EIM), has been formulated for the isolation of Edwardsiella ictaluri. The medium inhibits the growth of most gram-negative bacteria, except Proteus sp., Serratia marcescens and some isolates of Aeromonas hydrophila and Yersinia ruckeri.

Edwardsiella ictaluri type III and type VI secretion system mutant strains as candidates for live attenuated vaccines.

Journal of Aquatic Animal Health
OBJECTIVE Edwardsiella ictaluri, the causative agent of enteric septicemia of catfish, causes substantial economic losses to Channel Catfish Ictalurus punctatus producers in the United States. This study evaluates three E. ictaluri strains, each carrying
