Large mask area effects in selective area growth
Journal of Crystal Growth, 2006In this paper we analyze for the first time selective area growth (SAG) of GaAs by MOVPE on dark field patterns, where the different masking features are dense and at the same time the openings are surrounded by very large mask area (larger than the openings) in all directions.

The foveal color-match-area effect
Vision Research, 1994Rayleigh matches for foveal, temporally alternating fields showed only a small increase in the log green/red matching ratio (0.03--average of 10 observers) as the field was decreased from 116 to 19 min arc. This is consistent with only a small, 10%, change in photopigment density or lengthening of the cone outer segments in the central fovea.

Science, 2006Wildlife within protected areas is under increasing threat from bushmeat and illegal trophy trades, and many argue that enforcement within protected areas is not sufficient to protect wildlife. We examined 50 years of records from Serengeti National Park in Tanzania and calculated the history of illegal harvest and enforcement by park authorities.

Realizing Large Effective Area Fibers
Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2012Performances of state-of-the-art large-A eff single-core fibers are presented. We explain how trench-assisted step-index structures allow to reach A eff up to 160μm2 with 125μm glass diameter. Extension to larger A eff is also discussed.
