Investigation of the effect of temperature and pretreatment on the rehydration capacities of dried nectarine slices

open access: yesActa Scientiarum: Technology, 2017
In this study, the effect of temperature and pretreatment on the rehydration capacity of nectarine slices dried either with pretreatment and under ambient conditions (`natural´) at 50°C in a cabinet dryer was investigated.

Time Evolution of CO2 Diffusivity of Carbonated Concrete

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
Carbonation of cementitious materials is one of main causes of reinforcement corrosion and CO2 diffusivity influenced by microstructural characteristics of the cementitious materials is a decisive parameter for the carbonation rate. This study focused on

Stirring by swimming bodies

open access: yes, 2010
We consider the stirring of an inviscid fluid caused by the locomotion of bodies through it. The swimmers are approximated by non-interacting cylinders or spheres moving steadily along straight lines. We find the displacement of fluid particles caused by

Cardiac diffusion MRI without motion effects [PDF]

open access: yesMagnetic Resonance in Medicine, 2002
AbstractWe present a method for diffusion tensor MRI in the beating heart that is insensitive to cardiac motion and strain. Using a stimulated echo pulse sequence with two electrocardiogram (ECG) triggers, diffusion‐encoding bipolar gradient pulses are applied at identical phases in consecutive cardiac cycles.

In vitro properties of patient serum predict clinical outcome after high dose rate brachytherapy of hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Following high dose rate brachytherapy (HDR‐BT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), patients were classified as responders and nonresponders. Post‐therapy serum induced increased BrdU incorporation and Cyclin E expression of Huh7 and HepG2 cells in nonresponders, but decreased levels in responders.

Study of functioning of heat exchanger in soils with different thermal diffusivity

open access: yesГеофизический журнал, 2018
It was found with the help of mathematical model of the process of heat exchange between the air moving in vertical heat exchanger and the massif of soil, which connects energetic factors of the soil heat exchanger with its parameters as well as natural-

Soap films as two-dimensional fluids: Diffusion and flow fields

open access: yes, 2014
We observe tracer particles diffusing in soap films to measure the two-dimensional (2D) viscous properties of the films. We make soap films with a variety of water-glycerol mixtures and of differing thicknesses.

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.

Effects of Proteins on Protein Diffusion [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Chemical Society, 2010
Despite increased attention, little is known about how the crowded intracellular environment affects basic phenomena like protein diffusion. Here, we use NMR to quantify the rotational and translational diffusion of a 7.4-kDa test protein, chymotrypsin inhibitor 2 (CI2), in solutions of glycerol, synthetic polymers, proteins, and cell lysates.

Survivin and Aurora Kinase A control cell fate decisions during mitosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aurora A interacts with survivin during mitosis and regulates its centromeric role. Loss of Aurora A activity mislocalises survivin, the CPC and BubR1, leading to disruption of the spindle checkpoint and triggering premature mitotic exit, which we refer to as ‘mitotic slippage’.
