Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Effective discharge policy: are we getting there? [PDF]
Purpose: To determine patients? knowledge before admission about how many days they were likely to be hospitalised and, after discharge, to determine patients? perceptions of their ?readiness? to leave hospital following carotid endarterectomy. Usefulness of discharge communications to patients? GPs also was ascertained.

In recent years, advanced combustion technologies, such as highly dilute and highly boosted technologies were employed in the internal combustion engine to improve the fuel economy and reduce exhaust emissions. However, there are still many challenges in these advanced combustion technologies for the purpose of ignition control.

Mycobacterial 3‐methylcrotonyl‐CoA carboxylase uses a mobile biotin‐carrying domain to shuttle a carboxyl group between two catalytic sites, enabling carboxylation of 3‐methylcrotonyl‐CoA during leucine breakdown. Cryo‐electron microscopy captures the carrier at both sites and reveals an inward loop movement that may prevent futile rebinding to the ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Polarity Effect of Flowing Air Discharge
Gas discharge theory as an important subject has been widely employed to solve various questions related to discharge. However, previous concerns about gas discharge were mainly related to some discharge situations in static gases, which do not consider the influence of airflow on discharge.

Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Loss of proton‐sensing TDAG8 increases tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer
Loss of the pH‐sensing receptor TDAG8 accelerates colorectal cancer progression in mice. Animals lacking TDAG8 expression had increased tumor growth, DNA damage, and recruitment of tumor‐associated immune cells, including macrophages, neutrophils, and monocytes.
