On the space-charge effects in the beam extraction process of ion thrusters: the roles of compensating electrons and changing beam radius

Plasma Sources Science and Technology, 2023
Abstract Space-charge effects limit the beam-extraction capability of the ion optics and thus hinder the miniaturization and other performance improvements of ion thrusters. This paper presents numerical studies of the space-charge effects in ion optics using hybrid and full particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations, and proposes a modified ...

Effective Radius and Underpressure of an Air Extraction Well in a Heterogeneous Porous Medium

Transport in Porous Media, 1997
We consider the compressible steady state air flow in a porous medium caused by an extraction well and governed by Darcy's law. For a homogeneous soil matrix we have derived formulas (in 2-D and 3-D) to determine the effective radius of a single well depending on the well position and the depth of the domain.

Estimation of effective cleanup radius for soil‐vapor extraction systems

Journal of Soil Contamination, 1993
Abstract Soil‐vapor extraction (SVE) is a standard and effective in situ treatment for the removal of volatile contaminants from vadose‐zone soil. The duration of SVE operation required to reach site closure is quite variable, however, ranging up to several years or more.

Discretization of effective droplet radius in order to extract stratocumulus cloud parameters from NOAA-AVHRR channel 3

SPIE Proceedings, 1998
In this work, a method for the retrieval of droplet radius, temperature and optical thickness of oceanic stratocumulus is developed. It is based on night imagery obtained from the NOAA-AVHRR IR channels and an atmospheric radiative transfer model that makes use of the discrete ordinate method called DISORT.

Effects of Initiation Radius Selection and Lewis Number on Extraction of Laminar Burning Velocities from Spherically Expanding Flames

Combustion Science and Technology, 2017
Experimental flame trajectories of hydrogen/air and n-butane/air spherically expanding flames were measured over a wide range of equivalence ratios at pressures of 0.1 MPa and 0.05 MPa.

Effect of Height and Radius(h/r)Ratio of Micro Lens Array Pattern on the Light Extraction of OLEDs

Molecular Crystals and Liquid Crystals, 2011
In this paper we discussed the effect of micro lens array(MLA) pattern fabricated on the glass substrate of organic light emitting diode(OLED) for improvement of light extraction efficiency. The MLA patterns were formed by combination of photolithography and thermal reflow method and its effect on light extraction efficiency form OLED device was ...

Extracting Specific Cutting Force Coefficients in Micro Drilling with Tool Edge Radius Effects

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2015
This article introduces a methodology for extracting specific cutting force coefficients by performing micro drilling experiments with tool edge radius effect.Tool edge radius mainly affects the effective rake angle that varies according to undeformed chip thickness.

Method to estimate the emissivity from NOAA-AVHRR channel 3 in order to extract a distribution of effective droplet radius of stratocumulus clouds

SPIE Proceedings, 1998
In this work, a method to estimate the emissivity distribution is developed for stratocumulus clouds paying special attention to water vapor over these clouds. The main aim is to obtain an approximate distribution of effective radius for optically thick stratocumulus clouds. This method is based on night imagery obtained from the NOAA-AVHRR IR channels,
