Methodological problems with evaluating change efficiency

open access: yesEkonomia i Prawo, 2018
Motivation: Changes result from a turbulent environment and internal situation of an organization. Rarely do changes happen spontaneously, usually they stem from decisions consciously shaped and taken by the management.

Evaluation of CGIAR research support program for Managing and Sustaining Crop Collections: Genebanks CRP [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
The Genebank CRP concerns the work of the 11 CGIAR center genebanks. The objective of this research support program is to conserve the diversity of plant genetic resources in CGIAR-held collections and to make this diversity available to breeders and ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

How first comes energy efficiency? Assessing the energy efficiency first principle in the EU using a comprehensive indicator-based approach

open access: yes, 2022
The energy efficiency first (EE1) principle was defined and established as a leading principle of the European Union’s energy policy with the Clean Energy for All Europeans package in 2016.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Efficient evaluation of polynomial forms

open access: yesJournal of Computer and System Sciences, 1972
The evaluation of several polynomial forms is considered. New algorithms for the evaluation of a polynomial and its derivative, a polynomial at two points, a polynomial of high degree using multiple precision arithmetic, and a bivariate polynomial of the form Σa(i) xiyn−i are presented. Various “coefficient splitting techniques” are introduced in these

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Performance Evaluation of the UAV Sprayer in Controlling Brevicoryne Brassicae L. Pest in Canola [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Agricultural Machinery
IntroductionAbout 30% of the annual losses of agricultural products are caused by pests, diseases, and weeds. Spraying is currently the most common method of their control.
