Host plant‐specific volatiles of Beauveria bassiana‐colonized plants initiate trophic plant–aphid–predator cascades

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 10, Page 9538-9552, October 2026.
Endophytic colonization of melon plants by B. bassiana modifies the crop volatile profiles in a genotype‐dependent manner. A predator choice is biased toward endophytically colonized plants infested with aphids revealing a guardian within effect of the fungus of great potential in integrated pest management.

Tritrophic Interactions and Parasitoid Community Structure of Gall‐Inducing Herbivores in Arid Desert Ecosystems of Northern Xinjiang, China [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
This study systematically elucidates the complex tritrophic networks among the keystone shrub Lycium ruthenicum, three gall‐inducing pests, and 13 associated parasitoid species in the arid desert ecosystems of northern Xinjiang, China, reporting the globally novel stem gall‐inducing behavior of Scrobipalpa erichiodes.

Cannibalism in Buchananiella whitei (Hemiptera: Anthocoridae) and its intraguild interactions with seven predatory mites (Acari: Phytoseiidae & Laelapidae)

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 10, Page 10030-10038, October 2026.
Extraguild prey reduces cannibalism and intraguild predation in Buchananiella whitei, while first‐instar nymphs dominate most predatory mites, with outcomes affected by body size and behavioral traits. Abstract BACKGROUND Cannibalism and intraguild predation (IGP) are common interactions among predators that can influence the effectiveness of ...

Persistence without prosperity at the upper range margin: Elevation, microhabitat buffering and biotic pressure in a range‐expanding spider

open access: yesEcological Entomology, Volume 51, Issue 5, Page 926-943, October 2026.
Anthropogenic linear features facilitate high‐elevation colonization. Parasitoid pressure declines markedly with elevation. Cocoon damage increases despite reduced parasitism at high elevation. Abstract The upper elevational range limits of thermophilic arthropods reflect constraints on population persistence rather than simple presence.
