Heritability estimates of egg weight and egg shell weight in Ikenne, Nigeria

open access: yesInternational Journal of Scientific World, 2017
This study is designed to determine the inheritance pattern of egg weight and egg shell weight of exotic laying chickens at 25, 51, 72 weeks and overall mean ages of the birds. For this purpose, thirty eggs were collected daily from the birds continuously for five days of egg production, at each ages 25, 51 and 72 weeks.

On the Inheritance of Egg Weight

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1961
Abstract IT IS generally agreed that egg weight is a quantitative trait that depends upon several undetermined genes. Hays (1940, 1941) and Roberts et al. (1952) suggested that the genes affecting egg weight are autosomal, indicating that genes for egg weight are transmitted equally by sires and dams.

Inheritance of Egg Weight

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1952
Abstract THE results of selection and crosses involving differences in weight or size of eggs establish conclusively that heredity is a basic factor in determining egg weight. However, various conclusions relative to the number of genes operating, the mode of their expression, and the contributions of the male and female have been postulated, many of

Prediction of internal egg quality traits of Potchefstroom Koekoek and Lohmann Brown layers using classification and regression tree method [PDF]

open access: yesArchives Animal Breeding
Egg quality traits are features of eggs that influence the general quality of the egg. This study aimed to establish models for the prediction of albumen weight and yolk weight in Potchefstroom Koekoek and Lohmann Brown layers with a classification and ...

SELECTION AND CORRELATED RESPONSE FOR EGG PRODUCTION TRAITS IN INSHAS AND SILVER MONTAZAH STRAINS OF CHICKENS [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Animal and Poultry Production, 2006
Two local strains of chickens selected two generations for increasing egg number up to 40 wks of age (lnshas strain) and egg weight at 40 wks of age (Silver Montazah strain) were used to study the changes in egg number and egg weight after selection ...

An Analysis of Egg Weights

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1931
Abstract The records used in the following analysis were obtained at the National Institute of Poultry Husbandry, in 1927–1928. House G consisted of ten pens, each pen containing 40 birds at the beginning of the experiment, September 30th, 1927. The rations fed to the ten pens differed in their constituents. The aim of the experiment was to determine

Egg breakfast enhances weight loss [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Obesity, 2008
To test the hypotheses that an egg breakfast, in contrast to a bagel breakfast matched for energy density and total energy, would enhance weight loss in overweight and obese participants while on a reduced-calorie weight loss diet.Men and women (n=152), age 25-60 years, body mass index (BMI) >or=25 and

The effect of egg weight on egg external quality characteristics and hatching performance in pekin ducks [PDF]

open access: yesKafkas Universitesi Veteriner Fakültesi Dergisi, 2023
This study aimed to investigate the effect of different egg weights on egg external quality characteristics and hatching performance in Pekin ducks. A total of 800 eggs were divided into three weight categories: "light" (Lo; 82 g).
