The Relationship of Egg Weight to Hatchability of Coturnix Eggs

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1971
Abstract This report relates size to hatchability of Coturnix eggs. Two trials were run with breeders in their 8th month of production and one trial with breeders in their first month. After gathering from mass-mated pens consisting of 30 females and 10 males, the eggs were weighed individually and sorted into half gram classes.

Model of the relationship between egg weight and the external quality of Pengging duck (Anas plathyrynchos)

open access: yesJurnal Ilmu Peternakan Terapan
This research was designed to analyze the relationship between egg weight and the external quality of Pengging duck eggs. The method used in the research was quantitative observational.  Samples of Pengging Duck eggs were taken from the Banyubiru Satker

Investigation of Egg Quality Characteristics Affecting Egg Weight of Lohmann Brown Hen with Data Mining Methods [PDF]

open access: yesPoultry Science Journal
Hen egg weight is one of the most important traits in the egg production industry; however, the egg traits influencing it are poorly understood. Random forest (RF), multivariate adaptive regression spline (MARS), classification and regression trees (CART)

Heritability of Egg Production and Egg Weight in Turkey

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1954
Abstract ALTHOUGH the inheritance of quantitative characters in chickens has been rather extensively investigated the measurement of genetic and environmental variances in turkeys has been largely neglected. Tacit assumptions that the magnitude of the genetic variability relative to the total variability is of the same size for analogous characters ...

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Acute caffeine treatment protects the developing retina from ischemia‐induced cell death

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Caffeine reduces cell death in the developing retina under ischemia (OGD). This effect does not involve BDNF upregulation or antioxidant pathways (NRF2/VEGF). Neuroprotection occurs mainly through adenosine A2A receptor antagonism, decreasing glutamate release and excitotoxicity, highlighting caffeine's potential as an acute neuroprotective agent in ...

Phenotypic Correlations Between Egg Quality Traits Amid the Laying Phase of Broiler Breeder Hens

open access: yesContemporary Agriculture, 2022
In order to determine phenotypic correlations between the quality traits of eggs from 41-week-old broiler breeder hens (Cobb 500), a total of 105 eggs suitable for incubation were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson’s correlation ...

Yolk concentrations of hormones and glucose and egg weight and egg dimensions in unincubated chicken eggs, in relation to egg sex and hen body weight

open access: yesGeneral and Comparative Endocrinology, 2013
Birds can manipulate offspring sex ratio under natural and experimental conditions and maternal hormones have been shown to be involved in this process. Studies also provided evidence for the presence of sex specific concentrations of yolk hormones in avian eggs.
