Assessing the hidden risks of non‐thermal processing: Ultrasound‐induced toxicity of cashew apple juice in a zebrafish model

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract Background High‐intensity ultrasound is widely advocated for the preservation of liquid foods; however, the potential formation or release of toxic compounds during processing remains under‐investigated. This study evaluated the toxicological profile of cashew apple juice processed by high‐intensity ultrasound (1250, 1875, and 2500 W;L⁻¹ ...

HvarAKR1B1‐mediated tolerance in Hippodamia variegata: Deciphering the metabolic adaptation and fitness costs under prolonged starvation

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Starvation stress significantly affected the growth and development of Hippodamia variegata. Combined transcriptome and metabolome analysis and RNA interference verification revealed that HvarAKR1B1 may be involved in the response of Hippodamia variegata to starvation stress.

Predator egg‐induced non‐consumptive effects suppress spider mite survival and reproductive performance

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Increasing predation intensity of predatory mite significantly reduced spider mite fitness in terms of shorter mother longevity, lower mother fecundity, longer offspring development, lower offspring survival, and lower population growth. Abstract BACKGROUND Predators suppress pest populations not only through direct consumption but also via non ...

DEET‐cyclodextrin inclusion complexes for mosquito and tick repellency: Extended repellency time and no zebrafish embryotoxicity

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Hydroxypropyl‐β‐cyclodextrin (HPβCD)–N,N‐diethyl‐meta‐toluamide (DEET) complex extended tick repellency to 168 h. Full protection against Aedes aegypti for 7 h with HPβCD‐DEET. HPβCD reduced DEET release and skin retention significantly. No embryotoxicity observed below 325 mg L−1 in zebrafish model.

Effect of Lipid Peroxyl Radicals on the Structure and Processing Properties of Egg Yolk Protein

open access: yesShipin gongye ke-ji
To clarify the effect of lipid peroxyl radicals on the structure and processing properties of egg yolk protein, peroxyl radicals produced at different concentrations of 2,2'-Azobis (2-methylpropylimide) dihydrochloride (AAPH) was applied to egg yolk ...

Egg yolk-free cryopreservation of bull semen.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
Egg yolk is a common ingredient of mammalian semen extender to protect sperm against initial cold shock. However, egg yolk has biosecurity risks. Our main objectives were to cryopreserve bull semen without egg yolk using exogenous cholesterol and to ...
