: We have studied in detail the changes that occur in eggshell structure and composition during a production cycle in order to better understand the deterioration of eggshell quality with hen age (at 33, 45, and 67 wk).

Evolution of the Avian Eggshell Biomineralization Protein Toolkit – New Insights From Multi-Omics
The avian eggshell is a remarkable biomineral, which is essential for avian reproduction; its properties permit embryonic development in the desiccating terrestrial environment, and moreover, are critically important to preserve unfertilized egg quality ...

Elastic Moduli of Avian Eggshell [PDF]
We analyze 700 freshly-laid eggs from 58 species (22 families and 13 orders) across three orders of magnitude in egg mass. We study the elastic moduli using three metrics: (i) effective Young’s modulus, EFEM, by a combined experimental and numerical method; (ii) elastic modulus, Enano, by nanoindentation, and (iii) theoretical Young’s modulus, Etheory.

Advances in eggshell membrane separation and solubilization technologies
Eggshell membranes (ESM) contain 90% protein, 3% lipids, 2% sugars, and small amounts of minerals such as calcium and magnesium. Of the 90% of proteins present, 472 proteins species have been identified.

Abstract Eggshell powder (ESP) may be an alternative natural sustainable supplementary cementitious material (SCM). Mortar specimens containing 0, 5, 10 and 20 wt. % of ESP as Portland cement replacements were submitted to 20, 150, 300 and 450°C.

Eggshell colour differences in a classic example of coevolved eggshell mimicry
Avian brood parasitism is a model system for understanding coevolutionary arms races, and the great reed warbler ( Acrocephalus arundinaceus , hereafter ‘warbler’) and its parasite the common cuckoo ( Cuculus canorus , hereafter ‘cuckoo’) are prime examples of this coevolutionary struggle ...

Research progress on bird eggshell quality defects: a review
: The eggshell quality declined with extending of chicken laying cycles. Eggshell quality is a crucial feature that not only affects consumer preference, but also influences producers’ economic profitability.
