Shennong 1 Chicken 40K Liquid Chip: Advancing Genetic Research in Chinese Indigenous Chickens

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Based on comprehensive genomic data of Chinese indigenous chickens, we developed a specialized genotyping array for this population. Comparative analyses with published mainstream arrays and evaluations, including genetic assessment of diverse chicken types and gene mining analyses, demonstrated its superior applicability to Chinese indigenous chickens.

Variability in Avian Eggshell Colour: A Comparative Study of Museum Eggshells

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2010
The exceptional diversity of coloration found in avian eggshells has long fascinated biologists and inspired a broad range of adaptive hypotheses to explain its evolution. Three main impediments to understanding the variability of eggshell appearance are: (1) the reliable quantification of the variation in eggshell colours; (2) its perception by birds ...

Multi‐Omics Insights Into the Role of Fructooligosaccharides Supplementation in Alleviating Salpingitis in Laying Hens

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Multi‐omics analysis revealed that FOS supplementation increased the abundance of Phascolarctobacterium, GCA‐900066575, Shuttleworthia, Olsenella, Eubacterium_hallii_group while decreasing Alistipes. It also influenced the metabolism of S‐lactoylglutathione, p‐cresol glucuronate, 2‐phenylethanol glucuronide, propionic acid, dulcitol, and inhibited the ...

Keel Bone Damage in Commercial Laying Hen Hybrids. [PDF]

open access: yesVet Med Sci
This work reviews the influence of production systems, strain and age of laying hens on keel bone damages (KBDs) with the subsequent welfare implications and production losses. Damages to the keel bone are influenced to a greater extent by the type of production system and its complexity.
