Vaccine to fibroblast growth factor 23 peptides increases eggshell strength

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2018
Strategies that would increase eggshell quality could be of considerable value to egg producers. This research demonstrated the effective use of fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF-23) peptide vaccines to increase eggshell quality of Single Comb White Leghorn laying hens (from 69 to 72 wk of age). Hens, fed a standard diet (containing 900 IU/kg vitamin D3)

Aqueous Two‐Phase Bioinks for Discrete Packing and Compartmentalization of 3D Bioprinted Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Aqueous two‐phase systems (ATPS) enable the formation of biomimetic interfaces crucial for tissue engineering. However, clinical translation remains limited by the challenge of precisely controlling cellular compartmentalization. Here, we developed ATPS biomaterial inks for 3D bioprinting allowing tuneable droplet formation via NaCl modulation.

The evolution of host‐specific variation in cuckoo eggshell strength [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Evolutionary Biology, 2010
AbstractCuckoo eggs are renowned for their mimicry of different host species, leading to the evolution of host‐specific races (or ‘gentes’) defined by egg colour and pattern. This study aims to test the prediction that another property of parasitic eggs, namely shell strength, might also have experienced divergent selection within cuckoo species.

Liquid Metal Microrobots for Magnetically Guided Transvascular Navigation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Liquid metal‐based microrobots combine magnetic steering, intrinsic X‐ray visibility and softness, to navigate blood vessels even against flow. Under clinically relevant magnetic fields, liquid metal microrobots roll along vessel walls, cross endothelial barriers, and accumulate in target tissues.

Environment type and storage period on eggshell quality of laying hens at different ages

open access: yesCiência Rural, 2021
: Eggshell quality is directly linked to the good acceptability of the product by consumers, whereas the industry is concerned with economic losses. Prolonged periods of laying, diseases, nutrition, bird age and genetics can influence egg quality.

PMMA – EGGSHELL COMPOSITE PREPARATION AND STUDYING MECHANICAL PROPERTIES AS A DENTAL MATERIAL

open access: yesJournal of Engineering and Sustainable Development, 2020
In recent years, many researchers used polymethyl methacrylate in dental applications due to good mechanical and physical properties. In this research, the eggshell powder had mixed with polymethyl methacrylate resin for the preparations of new composite

Graman Revisited Once Again: A Reanalysis of the Late Holocene Legacy Faunal Assemblage From GB4 Rockshelter, New South Wales

open access: yesArchaeology in Oceania, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The archaeological site Graman B4 provided one of the first records of substantial dietary change in ancient Australian Aboriginal society. Initial examination of the faunal remains from this site suggested that Late Holocene hunters reduced their focus on high‐ranked kangaroos to increasingly rely on arboreal possums; and that these ...

Heat Stress and Gut Microbiome Dynamics in Poultry: Interplay, Consequences, and Mitigation Strategies

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Heat stress disrupts gut microbial balance in poultry, impairing nutrient absorption and immunity. This review outlines the interplay between thermal stress and microbiome dynamics and discusses integrative mitigation strategies, probiotics, phytogenics, cooling systems, and genetic adaptation to enhance poultry resilience.
