Factors Influencing Thickness of Eggshell
Abstract The original work described in this paper was done as part of a project of the Kentucky Agricultural Experiment Station. In producing and handling market eggs, strong shells are desirable. Much of the loss through breakage, both on the farm and in transportation, is due to weak shells.

Research Note: Electronic Eggshell Thickness Gauge
Abstract An electronic gauge that increases the speed and ease of measuring eggshell thickness is described. The performance of the electronic gauge was compared with that of more conventional methods (visual and mechanical) of thickness measurements.

Eggshell structure, measurements, and quality-affecting factors in laying hens: a review
Eggshell quality is one of the most significant factors affecting poultry industry; it economically influences egg production and hatchability. Eggshell consists of shell membranes and the true shell that includes mammillary layer, palisade layer, and ...

Ultrasonic eggshell thickness measurement for selection of layers
This study aimed to develop a methodology for using ultrasonic technology (USG) to record eggshell thickness for selection of layers. Genetic correlations between eggshell strength and its thickness have been reported to be around 0.8, making shell thickness a selection index candidate element.
