Structural Features in EIAV NCp11:  A Lentivirus Nucleocapsid Protein with a Short Linker

Biochemistry, 2006
Lentiviral nucleocapsid proteins are a class of multifunctional proteins that play an essential role in RNA packaging and viral infectivity. They contain two CX(2)CX(4)HX(4)C zinc binding motifs connected by a basic linker of variable length. The 3D structure of a 37-aa peptide corresponding to sequence 22-58 from lentiviral EIAV nucleocapsid protein ...

Gene transduction efficiency in cells of different species by HIV and EIAV vectors [PDF]

open access: yesGene Therapy, 2002
The ability of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)- and equine infectious anaemia virus (EIAV)-based vectors to transduce cell lines from a range of species was compared. Both vectors carried the vesicular stomatitis virus G (VSV-G) envelope protein and encoded an enhanced green fluorescent protein (eGFP) gene driven by a human cytomegalovirus (CMV ...

Truncation of cytoplasmic tail of EIAV Env increases the pathogenic necrosis

Virus Research, 2008
Equine Infectious Anemia Virus (EIAV), like other lentiviruses, has a transmembrane glycoprotein with an unusually long cytoplasmic tail (CT). Viral envelope (Env) proteins having CT truncations just downstream the putative membrane-spanning domain (PMSD) are assumed to exist among all wild-type budded virions, and also in some cell-adapted strains. Understanding virus–host dynamics following EIAV infection in SCID horses

Journal of Theoretical Biology, 2014
We develop a mathematical model for the interaction between two competing equine infectious anemia virus strains and neutralizing antibodies. We predict that elimination of one or both virus strains depends on the initial antibody levels, the strength of antibody mediated neutralization, and the persistence of antibody over time.

[Induction of EIAV-specific cellular immune response by attenuated EIAV vaccine].

Xi bao yu fen zi mian yi xue za zhi = Chinese journal of cellular and molecular immunology, 2009
To elucidate cellular immune protective mechanism of EIAV.Four horses were immunized with (DLV) by subcutaneous injection and 2 horses with 0.85% sodium chloride as the negative control. Rectal temperatures and clinical features were recorded daily. Whole blood samples were collected, from which PBMC were separated and used for CTL assay and lymphocyte

In vivo evaluation of an EIAV vector for the systemic genetic delivery of therapeutic antibodies [PDF]

open access: yesGene Therapy, 2005
Lentiviral-based vectors hold great promise as gene delivery vehicles for the treatment of a wide variety of diseases. We have previously reported the development of a nonprimate lentiviral vector system based on the equine infectious anaemia virus (EIAV), which is able to efficiently transduce dividing and nondividing cells both in vitro and in vivo ...

Production of Equine Infectious Anemia Virus (EIAV) antigen in Pichia pastoris

Journal of Virological Methods, 2013
Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA) is a persistent lentivirus infection of horses which causes a chronic clinical condition with worldwide importance in veterinary medicine. The p26 protein is usually prepared for use as an antigen in serological tests for EIA diagnosis since it is a well-conserved gene sequence and very immunogenic. In view of the ability

EIAV Envelope Diversity: Shaping Viral Persistence and Encumbering Vaccine Efficacy

Current HIV Research, 2010
Equine infectious anemia virus (EIAV) and its associated disease have presented a considerable challenge to veterinary medicine worldwide ever since its identification in the 19th century. Furthermore EIAV, along with its fellow animal lentiviruses, has been utilized as an animal model of HIV-1/AIDS research since the latters identification in the late

EIAV, CAEV and other lentivirus vector systems.

Somatic cell and molecular genetics, 2002
Lentiviruses that infect non-primates make up a diverse collection of viruses. Although these viruses have some features in common with HIV and other primate viruses, differences in genome organization and viral gene function have made the successful derivation of vectors from non-primate lentiviruses unpredictable.
