Characteristic surface data for the eikonal equation [PDF]
A method of solving the eikonal equation, in either flat or curved space–times, with arbitrary Cauchy data, is extended to the case of data given on a characteristic surface. We find a beautiful relationship between the Cauchy and characteristic data for the same solution, namely they are related by a Legendre transformation.

Software for the numerical solution of first-order partial differential equations
Partial differential equations of the first order, arising in applied problems of optics and optoelectronics, often contain coefficients that are not defined by a single analytical expression in the entire considered domain.

Application of Fibonacci heap to fast marching method
The fast marching method (FMM) is an efficient, stable and adaptable travel time calculation method. In the realization of this method, it is necessary to select the minimum travel time node from the narrow band many times.

Quadratic Theory of Gravity with a Scalar Field and Type I Shapovalov Wave Spacetimes
For the quadratic theory of gravity with a scalar field, exact solutions are found for gravitational-wave models in Shapovalov I-type spacetimes, which do not arise in models of the general theory of relativity.

Eikonal Particle Scattering and Dilaton Gravity [PDF]
Approximating light charged point-like particles in terms of (nonextremal) dilatonic black holes is shown to lead to certain pathologies in Planckian scattering in the eikonal approximation, which are traced to the presence of a (naked) curvature ...

Hopf maps as static solutions of the complex eikonal equation
We demonstrate that a class of torus-shaped Hopf maps with arbitrary linking number obeys the static complex eikonal equation. Further, we explore the geometric structure behind these solutions, explaining thereby the reason for their existence.

Bayesian inversion of log-normal eikonal equations
Abstract We study the Bayesian inverse problem for inferring the log-normal slowness function of the eikonal equation, given noisy observation data on its solution at a set of spatial points. We contribute rigorous proofs on the existence and well-posedness of the problem.
