The effect of moisture-induced swelling on the absorption capacity of transversely isotropic elastic polymer-matrix composites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The interaction between humid air and transversely isotropic fiber-reinforced composites with swelling polymeric matrix is considered. A model is proposed for the water saturation level in a polymer when stresses are applied, that uses directly ...

Diffuso-Kinetics and Diffuso-Mechanics of Carbon Dioxide / Polyvinylidene Fluoride System under Explosive Gas Decompression: Identification of Key Diffuso-Elastic Couplings by Numerical and Experimental Confrontation

open access: yesOil & Gas Science and Technology, 2015
The work aims at identifying the key diffuso-elastic couplings which characterize a numerical tool developed to simulate the irreversible ‘Explosive Decompression Failure’ (XDF) in semi-crystalline polymer.

Solution of inverse geometrico-static problem (IGP) for suspended rigid-flexible coupling parallel mechanism (RFCPM) driven by elastic thin rods [PDF]

open access: yesMechanical Sciences
Rigid-flexible coupling is the development trend of lightweight parallel mechanisms. Different from traditional rigid parallel mechanisms, although the flexible components are light in weight, the large elastic deformation generated by the mechanism will

Precipitation Simulations of the O‐Phase in Ti2AlNb Alloys Processed by Laser Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Simulated and experimental evolution of the O‐phase volume fraction during postprocessing of a Ti‐21Al‐25Nb (at.%) alloy processed by laser powder bed fusion. With results of sensitivity to input parameters from a thorough and quantified analysis, the interfacial energy matrix/precipitate is the most relevant input parameter for the simulation of the O‐

Improvement of the four-roller crusher DChG 900×700 by increasing the reliability of the drive [PDF]

open access: yesНаучно-технический вестник Брянского государственного университета
The reliability of crushing and grinding machines significantly affects their technical and economic efficiency. To improve the reliability indicators of the four-roll crusher DCHG 900×700, it was proposed to use a finger-type coupling with an elastic ...

Modeling Dislocation Cutting of γ′ Precipitates in Ni‐Base Superalloys: Linking Atomistic and Dislocation Dynamics Simulations

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Dislocation cutting of γ′ precipitates in Ni‐based superalloys is investigated by linking atomistic simulations with discrete dislocation dynamics. The critical cutting stress is shown to be governed by the antiphase boundary energy, while line tension effects promote edge‐preferred cutting.

Symmetries of 2-lattices and second order accuracy of the Cauchy-Born model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We show that the Cauchy-Born model of a single-species 2-lattice is second order if the atomistic and continuum kinematics are connected in a novel way. Our proof uses a generalization to 2-lattices of the point symmetry of Bravais lattices. Moreover, by

Triple Junctions as Dislocation‐Like Defects: The Role of Grain Boundary Crystallography Revealed by Experiment and Atomistic Simulation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Grain boundary triple junctions are an essential ingredient of the microstructure of polycrystalline materials. In this study, a triple junction is observed using atomic‐resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy and characterized. Computer simulations reveal that the junction has a dislocation character that is determined by the joining ...
