Elastic transformation method for solving the initial value problem of variable coefficient nonlinear ordinary differential equations

open access: yesAIMS Mathematics, 2022
Aiming at the initial value problems of variable coefficient nonlinear ordinary differential equations, this paper introduces the elastic transformation method into the process of solving the initial value problems of nonlinear ordinary differential ...

Assessment of Skin in Patients With Systemic Sclerosis Using High‐Frequency Ultrasound and Shear Wave Elastography: A Comparative Study With Histology, Molecular, and Clinical Parameters

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Ultrasound (US) has been proposed as a potential tool for assessing skin fibrosis in systemic sclerosis (SSc). However, a large‐scale comparison of US‐based assessment with histologic markers of skin fibrosis has not been reported. We evaluated US‐based skin assessments for their face validity (differentiation between involved SSc and healthy

Uniform fatigue damage tolerance assessment for additively manufactured and cast Al-Si alloys: An elastic-plastic fracture mechanical approach

open access: yesAdditive Manufacturing Letters, 2022
Lightweight Al-Si alloys are used in the automotive and railway industry due to their excellent strength-to-weight ratio and near-net-shape manufacturing. In additive manufacturing and casting, the near-net-shape manufacturing results in a non-homogenous

Trapped modes in curved elastic plates [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2005
We investigate the existence of trapped modes in elastic plates of constant thickness, which possess bends of arbitrary curvature and flatten out at infinity; such trapped modes consist of finite energy localized in regions of maximal curvature. We present both an asymptotic model and numerical evidence to demonstrate the trapping.

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Transient stress evolution in repulsion and attraction dominated glasses

open access: yes, 2014
We present results from microscopic mode coupling theory generalized to colloidal dispersions under shear in an integration-through-transients formalism.

Curved Odd Elasticity

open access: yes
Living materials such as membranes, cytoskeletal assemblies, cell collectives and tissues can often be described as active solids -- materials that are energized from within, with elastic response about a well defined reference configuration. These materials often live in complex and curved manifolds, yet most descriptions of active solids are flat ...

Lectures on Elastic Curves and Rods [PDF]

open access: yesAIP Conference Proceedings, 2008
These five lectures constitute a tutorial on the Euler elastica and the Kirchhoff elastic rod. We consider the classical variational problem in Euclidean space and its generalization to Riemannian manifolds. We describe both the Lagrangian and the Hamiltonian formulation of the rod, with the goal of examining the (Liouville‐Arnol'd) integrability.

Bistable Mechanisms 3D Printing for Mechanically Programmable Vibration Control

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces a 3D‐printed bistable mechanism integrated into tuned mass dampers (TMDs) for mechanically adaptive passive vibration suppression. Through optimized geometry, the bistable design provides adaptable vibration reduction across a broad range of scenarios, achieving effective vibration mitigation without complex controls or external ...

Geometric Optimization and Mechanical Performance Enhancement of Auxetic Structures for High‐Impact Applications Through Fused Deposition Modeling

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the mechanical performance of three auxetic structures, identifying a re‐entrant‐star hybrid as the most effective for impact absorption. Finite element simulations and experiments demonstrate significant gains in energy absorption and flexural strength after geometric optimization. This study investigates the mechanical performance
