Collision‐Resilient Winged Drones Enabled by Tensegrity Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Based on structures of birds such as the woodpeck, this article presents the collision‐resilient aerial robot, SWIFT. SWIFT leverages tensegrity structures in the fuselage and wings which allow it to undergo large deformations in a crash, without sustaining damage. Experiments show that SWIFT can reduce impact forces by 70% over conventional structures.

Elastic properties of single elastic fibers

open access: yesJournal of Applied Physiology, 1962
The elastic properties of elastic tissue were studied in a situation which minimized the effects of extraneous connective tissue and of the position of fibers in the elastic network. Single elastic fibers were dissected free from the ligamentum nuchae of the ox and were stretched under conditions of constant temperature and salinity. The strain was an

Elastic Fibers in Reinke's Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology, 2010
Objectives We describe the distribution of elastic system fibers in the superficial layer of the lamina propria of Reinke's edema, as compared with normal vocal folds. Methods Weigert's resorcin-fuchsin stain after oxidation with 10 ...
