Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Beams on Elastic Foundation. The Simplified Continuum Approach

open access: yesBulletin of the Polytechnic Institute of Jassy: Constructions, Architechture Section, 2009
The key aspect in the design of flexible structural elements in contact with bearing soils is the way in which soil reaction, referred to qualitatively as soil’s reactive pressure (p), is assumed or accounted for in analysis. A magnitude and distribution

What Do Large Language Models Know About Materials?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
If large language models (LLMs) are to be used inside the material discovery and engineering process, they must be benchmarked for the accurateness of intrinsic material knowledge. The current work introduces 1) a reasoning process through the processing–structure–property–performance chain and 2) a tool for benchmarking knowledge of LLMs concerning ...

Beam Elements on Linear Variable Two-Parameter Elastic Foundation [PDF]

open access: yesBulletin of the Polytechnic Institute of Jassy: Constructions, Architechture Section, 2008
The traditional way to overcome the shortcomings of the Winkler foundation model is to incorporate spring coupling by assemblages of mechanical elements such as springs, flexural elements (beams in one-dimension, 1-D, plates in 2-D), shear-only layers ...

Nano- and viscoelastic Beck’s column on elastic foundation [PDF]

open access: yesActa Mechanica, 2015
Beck's type column on Winkler type foundation is the subject of the present analysis. Instead of the Bernoulli-Euler model describing the rod, two generalized models will be adopted: Eringen non-local model corresponding to nano-rods and viscoelastic model of fractional Kelvin-Voigt type. The analysis shows that for nano-rod, the Herrmann-Smith paradox

On the Lightweight Potential of Laser Additive Manufactured NiTi Triply Periodic Minimal Sheet Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the lightweight potential of laser additive‐manufactured NiTi triply periodic minimal surface sheet lattices. It systematically investigates the effects of relative density and unit cell size on surface quality, deformation recovery, compression behavior, and energy absorption.

Iterative technique for circular thin plates on Gibson elastic foundation using modified Vlasov model

open access: yesTheoretical and Applied Mechanics Letters, 2019
In this paper, to investigate the influence of soil inhomogeneity on the bending of circular thin plates on elastic foundations, the static problem of circular thin plates on Gibson elastic foundation is solved using an iterative method based on the ...

A Workflow to Accelerate Microstructure‐Sensitive Fatigue Life Predictions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a workflow to accelerate predictions of microstructure‐sensitive fatigue life. Results from frameworks with varying levels of simplification are benchmarked against published reference results. The analysis reveals a trade‐off between accuracy and model complexity, offering researchers a practical guide for selecting the optimal ...

Finite Element Analysis of Compressive Stress-Strain Relations in Elastic Materials for Seat Foundation

open access: yesBioResources, 2023
Elastic materials for seat foundations come in a variety of materials, shapes, and dimensions. However, it is difficult to measure the stress-strain relationships of many elastic material combinations by conventional uniaxial compression tests.
