The Physics of Rubber Elasticity

2005
Abstract This book provides a critical review of the equilibrium elastic properties of rubber, together with the kinetic-theory background. It is suitable for the non-specialist and the emphasis is on the physical reality embodied in the mathematical formulations.

The Physical Structure of Elastic Colloids

Rubber Chemistry and Technology, 1932
Abstract 1. Some of the concepts included in the term “molecule” are briefly discussed and it is pointed out that the mechanical molecule is often the most important one in colloid systems. 2. The elastic properties of colloid systems require, and are produced by a group of four factors: (a) Long fibrous molecules.

Basic Physical Processes of Elastic Spectrometry

1996
Forward recoil scattering can be completely described using the very well-known basic principles of charged particle interaction with matter, but charged particles moving through matter interact with both electron shells of atoms and nuclei. Thus, beside the scattering of ions by target nuclei, we have to consider energy loss resulting from ionizations

Rock-physics relationships between inverted elastic reflectivities

The Leading Edge, 2016
Quantitative relationships between true elastic properties are not always applicable to inverted elastic properties. We use the important example of two-term AVO reflectivity inversion to demonstrate this. AVO literature includes many examples of two-term AVO equations, and we provide a general relationship to convert between inverted reflectivities ...

Physics of Elasticity and Crystal Defects

2020
Abstract Mechanical properties of crystalline materials are almost always dominated by the defects within them. The ability to shape metals into pipes, girders and furniture stems from the generation, motion and interaction of these defects.

Effective characteristics of elastic physically nonlinear composites

Soviet Applied Mechanics, 1990
An extension of the method used by the authors [e.g.: ibid. 22, No. 11, 105-111 (1986; Zbl 0621.73018)] is proposed here to determine the effective characteristics and stress concentrators on inclusions of inhomogeneous physically nonlinear media. The solution of this problem is obtained under the assumption of homogeneity of the tensor characterizing ...

A physical basis for red cell membrane elasticity

Journal of Theoretical Biology, 1976
Abstract An estimate is made of the effect of lipid-water interactions at the membrane surface on observed membrane elasticity in the red blood cell. It is shown that elastic effects are expected to result from these interactions even in a completely fluid membrane.

Physical Insight into the Elastic Brewster's Angle

Proceedings, 2012
Light (EM) waves are transversely polarized and thus share properties with elastic shear waves. In particular, optical waves reflecting from an interface experience changes in their polarization. Brewster’s angle occurs for light reflecting from an interface such as air over a glass plate.

The Physical Properties of Elastic Fibers and Elastolysis

Connective Tissue Research, 1976
The effects of two forms of elastase on the Young's Modulus of elastic tissue have been studied. The monomeric, calcium poor form of the enzyme lowers the value of the Young's Modulus before an appreciable amount of protein is taken into solution. The polymeric, calcium rich enzyme on the other hand degrades the protein before reduction in Young's ...
