There are two different versions about the date of Parmenides’ birth. The one is based on the notoriously somewhat schematic statements of Apollodorus. According to him, Parmenides would have been born about the same year as Heraclitus. The other version rests on Plato’s dialogue Parmenides (127B; cf. also Theaet. 183E and Soph. 217C). Damit steht erneut dasjenige Datum in Konflikt, welches Apollodor fur Zenons floruit angibt, namlich

ODYSSEUS AND THE HOME OF THE STRANGER FROM ELEA
The Classical Quarterly, 2014Not very long ago, Plato'sSophistwas often presented as a dialogue devoted to the problem of being and not-being, entangled with limited success in an inquiry into the nature of the sophist. Thanks to the renewal of interest in the dramatic form of Plato's dialogues, recent works have shown that this entanglement is far from ill-conceived or anecdotal.
