The More-Electric Aircraft and Beyond
Aviation is a significant contributor to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the transportation sector. As the adoption of electric cars increases and GHG emissions due to other modes of transport decrease, the impact of air travel on environmental pollution has become even more significant.

Electric/Hybrid-Electric Aircraft Propulsion Systems
Proceedings of the IEEE, 2021The idea of electric propulsion for transportation is not new; indeed, the first cars, nearly 200 years ago, were electric. However, our dependence on fossil fuels over the last 100 years is now being questioned, and as a global society, we are moving toward more-electric transportation solutions.

AN ENGINEER needs a goal. In this respect he is no different from the follower of any other profession, art, or trade. Having a goal, every effort and project becomes a step in the final achievement. It is the purpose of this paper to suggest some goals which are on the horizon today.

Powerful charger for electric aircraft
IECON 2013 - 39th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2013This work deals with a new conception of a powerful charger for electric aircraft VUT 001 MARABU. Its power output is 15 kW at a switching frequency of 100 kHz. This powerful charger was completely constructed and tested.

Advanced aircraft electrical systems to enable an All-Electric aircraft
2015 International Conference on Electrical Systems for Aircraft, Railway, Ship Propulsion and Road Vehicles (ESARS), 2015Efficient power generation techniques used in a modern aircraft are described in the form of a High Voltage Variable Frequency Starter Generator. Its advantages in enabling an All-Electric aircraft are discussed. Machine Design aspects of such a system are obtained from detailed analysis of the output equation of a high speed rotating machine.

Electrically Driven Gyroscopes for Aircraft
Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1944GYROSCOPIC instruments are given a place of prominence on the instrument panels of military and commercial aircraft. They are among the “most used” of all the instruments and are necessary for blind flight since they serve as stable references in space when natural objects are not visible.

The use of large amounts of power in aircraft becomes a power-handling problem; and electric transmission from the turbines mounted in the fuselage, to the propellers on the wings, has the same advantages as in handling very large amounts of power in industry.

Electric automatic pilots for aircraft
Electrical Engineering, 1944AUTOMATIC pilots have been in use for many years in both commercial and military aircraft and are well suited to normal airplane control. Their greatest usefulness is in maintaining heading and attitude over long periods of time, with consequent reduction in strain on the human pilot.

Plastics in aircraft electricity
Electrical Engineering, 1944SYNTHETIC organic plastics for electrical insulation represent one of the important contributions of the plastics industry to modern military and commercial aircraft. These materials for the most part are not used as substitutes for more suitable but scarce insulating materials, but have been selected because they possess superior mechanical and ...
