Research on an Electric Power Steering System with Active Steering Ability

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2013
To introduce a new type of electric power steering system, the structure and working principle of the system were introduced, and the models of the car, the tire and the steering system were established. The assist characteristic of the power steering and the ideal steering ratio were also designed and optimized.

Electrical Machines Used in Electric Power Steering Applications

2019 8th International Conference on Modern Power Systems (MPS), 2019
In advanced vehicles electric power steering systems owing several advantages are replacing the classical hydraulic ones. The main part of such systems is the electrical machine developing the required steering torque. The paper is a survey on the most widely used electrical machines proposed for these vital systems of a modern vehicle.

Electric Power Steering - The First Step on the Way to “Steer by Wire”

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1999
<div class="htmlview paragraph">The automotive industry is facing a revolution in steering technology. For many years powersteering technology was focussed on hydraulic systems. These systems have achieved a remarkable performance in regard to ride and handling, cost and comfort. At the moment the situation is changing dramatically.

Study on Power Control of Electric Power Steering System

ICCTP 2009, 2009
The method of the proportional control power is analyzed. The oscillations of an Electric Power Steering System are found. On these bases, the improvement measures of the power control carried on a differential calculus compensate is proposed. Proportional plus differential calculus control is designed.

Loss Minimizing Control of PMSM for Electric Power Steering

2015 17th UKSim-AMSS International Conference on Modelling and Simulation (UKSim), 2015
Electric drives are very useful in propelling the wheels of hybrid and electric vehicles (HEVs). They also play a central function in the electric power steering (EPS). In this paper, a loss minimizing scheme for permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) was derived analytically and takes into consideration copper, iron and stray losses.

Optimal control of electric power-assisted steering system

Proceedings of 2005 IEEE Conference on Control Applications, 2005. CCA 2005., 2005
EPS (electric power-assisted steering) system has been used to replace traditional hydronic power steering system in vehicles. In an EPS system, the assisting torque is from an electric motor for steering effort. The performance of an EPS system requires that the high frequency external disturbance in road reaction torque be attenuated so that the ...

Control of Electric Power Steering Systems

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1998
<div class="htmlview paragraph">The dynamic characteristics of electric power steering (EPS) systems can be characterized by the transmissibility from rack load to steering wheel torque. The transmissibility can be studied by fixing the steering wheel and calculating the frequency response from the rack load to the torque needed to hold the ...

Compliant Control of Electric Power Assisted Steering Systems

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2005
<div class="htmlview paragraph">In this study, a compliant control strategy is developed, which makes the application of position based control strategies practicable for electric power assisted steering systems. In order to do this, an additional virtual degree of freedom is added to the system, which is stimulated by the torque exerted on the ...

Electric Power Steering (EPS) Operation Analysis

2020 International Russian Automation Conference (RusAutoCon), 2020
The steering of the car is considered taking into account the driver, as a link in the tracking system. The requirements for an electric amplifier and the model of a human operator are analyzed. A structural diagram of the steering process is drawn up taking into account the features of the kinematic chain of the car.

Electric power assisted steering (EPAS)

IEE Colloquium on DSP Chips in Real Time Measurement and Control, 1997
Concerns electric power-assisted steering (EPAS) of cars. There are more small cars than in the past, and most are front wheel drive, placing a large proportion of the weight of the car on the front wheels. This makes it desirable to fit the smaller cars with power assistance to the steering. A PAS system in smaller cars would also help maneuverability
