The cochlear implant electrode–pitch function
Hearing Research, 2006The cochlear frequency-place function in normal hearing ears has been found to be an exponential relationship in a wide variety of species [D.D. Greenwood, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 87 (1990) 2592-2605]. Although it seems reasonable to assume a similar function for electrical stimulation by means of an intra-cochlear electrode array, the exact frequency ...

Electrode Insertion Trauma in Cochlear Implantation
Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology, 1991Residual hearing conservation may be important in cochlear implantation of children and of adults with disabling tinnitus responsive to extracochlear stimulation. Damage to the neural elements of the cochlea during electrode insertion may have a negative impact on residual hearing conservation. Histologic analysis of eight temporal bones with cochlear

Percutaneous implantation of cardiac pacemaker electrodes
The American Journal of Cardiology, 1967Abstract A simple, safe, rapid method for inserting thin, insulated wire electrodes into the right ventricular cavity for artificial pacing of the heart is described. Two fine, insulated Elgiloy wires are introduced percutaneously into the right ventricle from the xiphoid area by using a prethreaded 21 gauge thin-walled needle.

Self-anchoring electrode for implantable pacemakers
American Heart Journal, 1976The writers describe a self-anchoring monopolar electrode for use in implantable pacemakers, intended to prevent migration. The device was implanted in 63 patients observed for 36 months, and results are considered very favorable.

Spreading depression using chronically implanted electrodes
American Journal of Physiology-Legacy Content, 1961Spreading depression (SD) was elicited from the cortex of rabbits in which an electrode assembly was implanted. A repetitive train of stimuli was used to elicit the phenomena. The presence of SD was shown by slow potential changes and diminution of direct cortical responses characteristic of SD in acute studies.

The misplaced cochlear implant electrode array
International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology, 2019Evaluation of the clinical, electrophysiologic findings, the management plans of the misplaced cochlear implant electrode array and the possible causes of misplacement. Also to provide recommendations to prevent a repeat of cochlear implant electrode misplacement into abnormal sites.Retrospective study.Pediatric cochlear implant recipients implanted ...

Study of power generating implantable electrodes
Medical & Biological Engineering, 1968Approximately 50–75 μW (microwatts) of electrical power can be obtained from an implantable platinum-black aluminum electrochemical cell. The implantations have been conducted in twelve rabbits for periods up to 200 days. The intensity of the initial tissue reaction and accumulation of insoluble aluminum oxidation products appear to be the factors ...

Implanted electrodes for multi-month EEG
2014 36th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2014An implanted electroencephalogram (EEG) recorder would help diagnose infrequent seizure-like events. A proof-of-concept study quantified the electrical characteristics of the electrodes planned for the proposed recorder. The electrodes were implanted in an ovine model for eight weeks. Electrode impedance was less than 800 Ohms throughout the study.

Impedance changes in chronically implanted and stimulated cochlear implant electrodes
Cochlear Implants International, 2013Electrode impedance increases following implantation and undergoes transitory reduction with onset of electrical stimulation. The studies in this paper measured the changes in access resistance and polarization impedance in vivo before and following electrical stimulation, and recorded the time course of these changes.Impedance measures recorded in (a)
