The pathophysiology of fluid and electrolyte balance in the older adult surgical patient.

open access: yesClinical Nutrition, 2014
BACKGROUND & AIMS Age-related physiological changes predispose even the healthy older adult to fluid and electrolyte abnormalities which can cause morbidity and mortality.

The Correlation of Fluid Creep with Fluid and Electrolyte Imbalance In Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo National Central Public Hospital

open access: yesTurkish Archives of Pediatrics
Objectives: Fluid creep, used as a drug diluent can contribute to fluid and electrolyte balance. Fluid creep brings substantial volume and electrolyte load to patients, especially in critically ill children.

Equilíbrio eletrolítico e ácido-base em bovinos Eletroctrolyte and acid-base balance in bovines

TECHNIQUES TO MINIMIZE THE EFFECTS OF ACUTE HEAT STRESS OR CHRONIC IN BROILERS [PDF]

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Poultry Science, 2019
High environmental temperature is limiting factor in broiler production. In order to minimize the undesirable consequences of acute or chronic heat stress, the techniques of fixed dietary electrolyte balance and early heat conditioning were evaluated ...

Different sodium levels and electrolyte balances in pre-starter diets for broilers

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Poultry Science, 2004
An experiment with 400 one-day-old male chicks (Ross) was conducted to evaluate the effects of different Na levels (0.10, 0.22, 0.34 and 0.46%) and different cation/anion balances (Na+K-Cl) (100, 150, 200, 250 and 300 meq/kg) in pre-starter diets on ...

Recurrent Hypothermia and Autonomic Dysfunction Secondary to Shapiro Syndrome

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A 44‐year‐old man presented with recurrent hypothermia, diaphoresis and hypertension. Extensive investigation for infectious, inflammatory, metabolic and endocrine aetiologies was negative. MR scan of the brain demonstrated no lesions but revealed callosal dysgenesis, consistent with Shapiro syndrome.

β‐Catenin/c‐Myc Axis Modulates Autophagy Response to Different Ammonia Concentrations

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, Volume 9, Issue 3, March 2025.
Ammonia, detoxified by the liver into urea and glutamine, impacts autophagy differently at varying levels. Low ammonia activates autophagy via c‐Myc and β‐catenin, while high levels suppress it. Using Huh7 cells and Spf‐ash mice, c‐Myc's role in cytoprotective autophagy is revealed, offering insights into hyperammonemia and potential therapeutic ...
